Hello all, we have recently discovered that my husband has a brother who was adopted out from the district of Wortley Yorkshire approx 47 yrs ago...His name on his birth certificate is 'Ian Hamshaw' but other than that I have no more leads...Any help would be very much appreciated :) |

Have you tried 'search trees' above? A slim chance, but it's worth a look just in case he is looking for his birth family and is a member - or someone else in the family is! |

Thanks Jan, sorry for submitting twice, just trying to get the hang of it...I can't search the trees as I don't know what his name would be now...I think the national adoption register will be our port of call. I spoke with social services and they said to put name on the register. We have since found out that he did try to contact his birth mother (my husbands mum) some yrs back but sadly she didnt want to know. The adopted brother will have no idea he has more family and we would really love to find him...thank you for your advice Jan x |

If he was going to put his name on this site, he would use his birth name |

But you do have his birth name don't you, as you say he was born Ian Hamshaw? This is the name you need to use. |

Have you also checked under his mothers name both married and maiden ? do you know which agency was used for he adoption ? it looks like he must have been actively seaching in order to trace his birth mother, |

I don't know the agency unfortunately, although we are in contact with the birth mother she will not discuss 2 much with us so all we have is his name, birth yr and district which I found on here...I am unsure of any other places to look apart from this adoption register...You are all so kind trying to help :) |

Also, can anyone answer this question? If there is only one Ian Hamshaw registered on births on GR and there is only one Ian Hamshaw on facebook, is it possible this can only be the same person? sorry if confusing, I am beginning to confuse myself lol....:) |

There are only 4 people born Ian Hamshaw - birth years ranging from 1965-82 - so not many, but no way of knowing if the one on Facebook is yours. |

lol just thought I would ask... also what is NORCAP? I think you are right about the register, if ian has tried to contact before than it could be likely that he has his details on there..The only thought I had was that as his birth mother rejected him again he may have given up and he has no way of knowing that he has more family...such a shame, I will persivere :) |

Because your one was not born in Norfolk, if he was adopted it is very unlikely he would be using his birth name on FB |

sometimes they just put the place they live now though because I do the same! also I did think that about his name but I then thought as he did want contact at some point he may have set up an extra profile on facebook in the hope his birth mother may find it... :) |
