Have you done any research yourself - on the freebmd site for instance?

Was Ratchford her name before, or after, she married your father?

ErikaH Report 3 Mar 2012 23:21

Sorry to ask, but are you 100% sure of the lady's first name?

Have you taken the precaution of checking the marriage record?

Who was your father?

hi reggie i had dads divorce papers with this name on it her maiden name was cole. i thought that the papers would save the expense of a cert . dads name was arthur r ratchford

You are welcome, rottie, but they are only Possibles, without the certs you can't be sure.

If you don't know where the daughter is, you should not have her in your tree, as you can't possibly have obtained from her the required permission

Buy the following death cert, for details of the informant

Posting for general reference - as she is deceased

I agree that possable living people should not be added to a tree without permission.....but

I think there is a difference when actually trying to find a sibling than having a huge great tree full of 2nd cousins once removed ect

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 4 Mar 2012 18:39

I didn't think that the GR rules quoted any exceptions when saying that permission must be obtained before adding living people to one's tree on here.

jax

jax Report 4 Mar 2012 18:56

Maybe not?

But there is a difference as I see it

I agree, how can you post a messages on the find living relatives and therefore have their permission to post ????
As you say one has to be careful on what we post but none the less the very reason for the board seems in fact to imply you are not in touch with them :-)

jax

Shelia

It is the permission needed to add a living person to your tree, I agree that if some distant cousin added me my ex and children to their tree they should ask first.

But if someone is looking for siblings/ half siblings ,parents who are seperated for what ever reason....I do not see a problem

Ok see where your coming from, thought the complaint was about posting about a living relative.
At one time in order to post a message on the TTF board you had to put the person in your tree to put the message on. Maybe this is what the poster thought.
To be fair though I understand some people not wanting their relatives in someones trees, but whilst records exist one BMDs I do not think that can be avoided.
