Marriage certificates have given the names of both parents including the mother's maiden surname." which would be correct if known by the people getting married; I know of one case where the mother's maiden surname was given incorrectly (the mother had died before the marriage took place so could not be asked, and the father lived in another country at that time so could not be asked).

Member Since: March 2005 Posts: 34 Send Message	Couldn't agree more Flick one of my GGGreat-Grandfathers Mum's died when he was young & he was raised by his Father & paternal Grandmother. On his 1st Marriage certificate he accurately gives his Mother as Margaret Barnes.On his 2nd marriage certificate he names her as Elizabeth McColl which was his stepmother's name-his Father remarried shortly before GG-Great Grandpa's first marriage.He just made a mistake. The most infuriating are when they don't know their Grandparents names! Despite the fact I never met either my maternal Granny or paternal Grandpa I knew their names & where they came from & also their parents names.
