Hello. I am looking to trace my great uncle who may currently reside in New Zealand.
His half-sister, Sarah Ann Stockton (nee Scotter, born November 1926 in Hull) is my paternal grandmother and has recently been widowed after nearly 62 years of marriage. I don't know anything about his father other than the surname, but know their mother was Mary Ellen Jenkinson, born 1897 in Filey, North Yorkshire.
Sarah and John (known as Jack) were very close as children and I would be thrilled if anyone could help get them back in touch with one another.
Thank you in advance for your time.

Have you checked 'search trees'?
Did the mother marry Mr Cullen?
Can you please confirm that you have accurate birth years...........I would thought a 13-year gap would preclude 'closeness' as children

IF this is the marriage of Sarah's parents, one must assume that Mary Ellen's marriage to Cullen preceded that of this union

I know that Mary had children to three fathers; George Scotter (4 children, one died in infancy), unknown Cullen (2 children) and the third father was not listed on the birth certificate, therefore her youngest child took her mother's maiden name as her surname.
Most years of birth are estimates based on what my grandmother and father can remember. Mary was definitely born in Filey and died 'young', as my grandmother took over caring for her brothers and sisters, hence the closeness.
Thank you all for your help.

I've given you the two Cullen childrens' births.
IF the birth year you have been given of 1939 is accurate............the surname would not have been Cullen
So is this 'Jack' the one who was given her maiden name?
For accurate research, you need accurate birth info
You should try looking through the records on freebmd.........and see if you can find one to match your 'info'

I feel like you know more than me, no wonder I couldn't find birth records! Just spoken to my dad who said Jack was definitely older than Sarah. Also his true sibling Mary coincides with the information I had (although birth date was also totally wrong).
The youngest born is Jane Jenkinson, no idea of birth date, although I think her mother died in her 40's. I'm not sure about this, I think one of Sarah's parent died in their mid-40's, the other died in their late 90's.
My grandmother must have been one who was looked after by older siblings, rather than the one doing the looking after.
Thank you so much for your help.

Sometimes, the picture looks clearer to someone who isn't 'involved', and has no pre-conceptions about events etc. I just dealt with the records as I found them.............
Isn't that Mary's death which I posted at 17:48?

By 1963 he is residing in Grey Lynn, Auckland and living at 83 Rose Road, and employed as a Cargo Worker.
There are quite a few records for him, if you want these, let me know and I will pm them to you rather than put them all here.
