Ah ,Graham ...I think that was the name I was trying to think of ,butNut Hatch kept coming into my mind...Just had a look at the pic and I have to say it did look very much like a Tree Creeper.It had that longish beak that I think a Wren wouldn't have.
I will have a closer look at the pic of the Tree Creeper :-D.It is really bugging me now not to know what it was.

My dad has a tree creeper living in his garden. They can be difficult to see when they're on a tree, because they're so well camouflaged. They're also a bit shy. I don't often see one when there's lots of other birds about.

We had a tree creeper years ago, it was very well camouflaged and sometimes it just looked like the bark on the tree was moving about.

Haven't seen it for a long time now. We also had a Nuthatch, I think he must have flown into the French windows as I found him on the patio one morning. Pretty little thing he was too.

We had a gorgeous day hers on Saturday, I managed a little walk round a local pond, lots of water birds including some unusual ducks and geese and a pair of the most enormous swans who were getting a bit too enthusiastic about the bread that was being thrown to them by the dozens of children that were about.

Not so nice today, colder and just dull. Himself has been out and taken some big chunks off The Thug's Blackthorn, before it grows too much more over our side. No sign of any blossom on it, this time last year it was covered.

I read in the paper that things are two weeks behind this year because of the cold start to the year. Daffodils especially are later. I am hoping theyw ill be out next week when we go to Cornwall. Our snowdrops in the garden (only a small clump), never flowered at all and daffs in pots are still just emerging. A tree opposite us has blossom on it as does one down the road. However, in a way I prefer it to revert to normal (which is what being later is really), spring in February never seems right.

Daughter used to have a nuthatch in the garden before they moved, pretty little birds.

I don't think Tree creepers usually go into the ground scavenging do they? I thought they only went on tree trunks and branches. Jane you will have to get a photo. :-)

They usually start around the base f the tree and work up. Sometimes it can look as if they're picking stuff from the ground when they're actually pick at the tree roots.

Ann I think the chances of me getting a pic is zilch :-S..I did hear it this morning ,but didn't see it.I had a good listen on line to the sound it makes so am pretty sure it is a tree Creeper.Also reading up on it is says it can look like a mouse and that was the first thought I had when I spotted it yesterday :-D

The big Male Pheasant has been here nearly all day.Being very brazen and sitting on top of some of the larger pots having a poke around.At one point after I threw the bird seed out along the hedge there was the Pheasant,Moorhens,Squirrel ,2 Magpies,and a bunch of Sparrows all pecking around :-D..it was a busy time lol

You can only try Jane. have you seen it again since? Mrs Blackbird is very busy at the moment collecting bits to make the first of her new homes.


Maryanna, the last time you went to Taunton, was the exit to Sainsbury's from the M5 as congested as it was a year ago? In other words are the road works still there? We don't know whether to stop there for coffee or not when we next go down that way. :-)

Hi Ann, when we came back a couple of weeks ago it all seemed pretty clear.

We don't use the M5 but get onto the a358 from the A 39 at that junction, there were roadworks there a while ago when they were working on the new park and ride.

Will be going that way on Friday if you can wait until then for an update ?!

Ann...... Motorway looking pretty clear around the Taunton junction today.

Stopped in Morrisons and got some of their lovely fish and chips.

A bit wet and dull here though.

Ann, Not much further at all, if you carry on along the Toneway, ignoring the roundabout to Sainsbury's, go through the traffic lights and following the signs to Minehead with a Mercedes garage and Asda on your left and an Audi dealership on the right.

You then get to another roundabout with Wicks to your front right, go straight over there, a filling station on your left and Dunelm Mill on the right.

Carry on past the Somerset Cricket ground on your left and before the next set of traffic lights take the left lane,and turn left, you will see the Morrison's filling station on the right, follow the road round to the left and you are in the car park.

You can use you £1 parking ticket against your shopping or meal if you spend over £10.
