Jane was just thinking about them I hope everyone is ok, what a worry to live somewhere like that.

kandj Report 5 Feb 2014 22:20

Only the once this morning for our young blackbird today Lesley. I think its too wet and cold and windy because hardly any birds are seen flying about today. Never mind, we are still excited and happy after 7 weeks with no birds visiting our feeder previously. I hope Vera won't have to wait for such a long time.

Oh dear Jane, I do hope that your niece and her neighbours won't have to move out of their homes. What a nightmare situation for everyone affected by the floods of this severe weather conditions. What a dreadful situation for them all.

kandj Report 6 Feb 2014 11:10

Dry and bright with less strong winds here in Yorkshire this morning.

Would you believe that the blackbird was pecking away enjoying his breakfast earlier but then flew off when hubby passed the window. I was sorry to have missed seeing him but was quite surprised at how much he had eaten from the feeder, which I had filled up first thing this morning. Not sure if we will see him back again after such a big feast, he clearly is happy with the berry pellets. Need to buy more now lol.

SuffolkVera Report 6 Feb 2014 16:06

Haven't been around much the last couple of days. Not a lot to report. OH got our feeder thingy set up but we haven't seen anything on it yet. I know it's very early days but I'm imagining it filled with birds - I'm ever the optimist.

OH got it set up while I was out and, if I'm honest, has chosen quite a good spot for it BUT I can't see it from the kitchen window, at least not without craning my neck at a strange angle. Still I can see it from the conservatory and the living room so I'll have to be content with that.

We have now seen a robin on the ground feeder a few times, but nothing else has joined him yet.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed

AnninGlos Report 6 Feb 2014 16:14

Kandj you will have to educate hubby to tiproe past the window if a bird is on the feeder, they don't like unexplained movement. If birds are on our feeders and we open the door into the conservatory, they always fly away.

Vera, fingers crossed you won't have to wait for too long. Shame you can't see it from the kitchen though, although good that you can from the living room. At least you have the robin. :-)

Jane Report 6 Feb 2014 16:41

Vera ,I 'm sure the birds will come. :-D.Once they get used to seeing the feeder there .It might look like a strange monster there at the moment lol.
Kandj,it is amazing how much our female Blackbird puts away in one sitting lol.She eats the pellets so fast and stays longer each time on the feeder now.I think she is getting used to seeing movement in the lounge and knows she is safe.
When I was away last week I came home with two 3Kilo bags of suet pellets !!!!.One is the Berry Flavour and the other Bug Flavour :-D.Yum Yum.I think I know I would prefer .It is tipping it down now and I think most of the birds have been and had their fill for the day.
I haven't seen the woodpecker :-(

Jane

Jane Report 6 Feb 2014 17:29

No Ann.No News ,so I am hoping all is 'dry'.I just think they are on the 'brink' .!!!!

AnninGlos Report 6 Feb 2014 20:09

Nothing on the news about Tewkesbury that I saw this evening. :-)

kandj Report 6 Feb 2014 21:31

The blackbird has been here twice today...... it is getting very good at landing on the gripper and pecking the berry suet pellets, obviously enjoying his new feeding place.
Hubby walked into the room and not noticed the bird was feeding until it flew away but it is getting more confident and was soon back lol. I have to say we are fascinated seeing the blackbird so close up and hope he will soon bring a few birds to eat here.

Vera, I have to say be patient as it has taken 7 weeks for us to have this single bird spot our window feeder and land confidently and feed in our view so often. I will need to buy some more suet pellets...... not complaining at all, we are just in awe of this new hobby as the bird is so entertaining and amusing too.

The new bird doesn't hang around on the lawn he just appears from nowhere, pecks at the food quite a lot now, and then flies off again. No idea where he goes?

Same grotty weather here again today, the birds didn't really venture out from under the hedge apart from the robin who is still bathing everyday in the bird bath :-S

Tomorrow (Friday) our middle daughter is off to Thailand for a month <3:-( :-D thankfully MOG is getting up at 4.30am to take her to Heathrow :-D

kandj Report 7 Feb 2014 08:59

Nasty, heavy rain and looks set to be in for the day here in Yorkshire.

No visitor as yet on the window feeder although there are a few sparrows and tiny blue tits on the back garden tree feeder. Now I am hoping the little blue tits will come around the bungalow and spot our lounge window feeder. That would be a bonus to watch the pretty birds up close.

Keep watching Vera but remember to be patient too.

Hope this continued wet weather isn't affecting Ann or Jane's niece too badly?

What a brave robin you have Lesley to venture out for his daily bath!
A few good points to your MOG for chauffeuring your daughter to Heathrow at such an early hour. Dad and Mum's Taxi's do come in handy,we well remember lol.

AnninGlos Report 7 Feb 2014 10:22

weather not too bad here this morning, next lot due tomorrow. Golf club closed :-( But that means a few jobs done. Bird feeders refilled, bathroom cleaned by OH, cupboard cleared out by both of us in the kitchen.

Seen a couple of goldfinches and other small birds this morning but not been looking all the time.

Hope daughter got off ok this morning Lesley..... Well done Dad.

Kandj no flooding where we are except for a couple of roads one near here always floods, they are always sticking their heads down the drain to see what causes it and don't seem able to fix it. Right on the corner by traffic lights so pedestrians get the worst of it when the lights change! Fields are under water though so I am sure the flood plain in Tewkesbury won't have drained yet. :-(

SuffolkVera Report 7 Feb 2014 10:41

Breaking news!! A blackbird has found the ground feeder and has come back several times for berry flavoured suet nibbles. I'm a happy bunny this morning now I've seen something other than the robin.

Wet and windy here again. I feel so sorry for those in the thick of the flooding. We are in the driest part of the country and even here everywhere is absolutely saturated. The birds have probably all emigrated!

kandj

kandj Report 7 Feb 2014 11:55

WOW...... is it my blackbird Vera? I'm sure you will be happily entertained now.
It really hasn't taken long and with your bird feeding station you are sure to have others following soon. Great news that.

It has brightened up here and the sun has come out. I hope others in the flooded areas have this sunshine to dry the sodden ground a little. A nightmare scenario!!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Feb 2014 12:04

We too have sunshine. Have just driven a short distance for coffee at our local garden centre and a lane and fields that we have not seen flooded in the 22 years we have lived here were flooded. We drove round there Tuesday so that has happened since then. Didn't think we'd had that much rain in the past three days must have been over night.

Jane

Jane Report 7 Feb 2014 15:54

Well, so far it has been sun sun sun :-D.Washing on line and OH right down the bottom of the garden having a bonfire.Good job he is a long way from the washing line otherwise the air would be 'blue'.I haven't spent time yet today seeing which birds are about ,but there is a lot of birdsong going on.The Blackbirds and Robins seem to be trying to out do each other lol

Lesley, has your daughter gone travelling around Thailand .My son spent a few months living with the Hill Tribe People up near Chang Rai.He went with a NGO and they built a school for the village children. He loved it there.I'm sure your Daughter will have a great time :-D..Good old Dad.Thats what Dad do isn't it :-D :-D.How long is the drive to Heathrow from you? At least the roads should have been quiet at that time in the morning.

Well I notice now the feeder needs topping up again,so had better go and due my duty :-D
More rain on the cards tonight I see :-| :-|

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Feb 2014 17:20

We are expecting very bad weather over the weekend. But at least they have given them sand bags. Fingers crossed for them.

Jane Report 7 Feb 2014 17:30

Ann she must be feeling so sick now with worry of it all happening again.I can imagine it will be all go now to move things to higher levels now just in case the worst happens. At least her Children can always go and stay with my Sister and OH if needed. Then it will be the animals to worry about. There is no way my Sister could have the dogs as she already has 3 large ones. The cats can go upstairs with litter trays and George the Tortoise will have to up stairs too.
Fingers and everything else crossed for them all this weekend .
