Well I have nothing much to relate except the birds seem to have deserted me! Except for the pigeons of course..lol.... But the park was buzzing with parakeets this morning...such a beautiful sight! BC XX

Parakeets!? It's a long shot this BC, but I'm guessing you don't live in Shropshire?

I'm just a keen birder, Tec. Was over at Broad Water not so long back. Have seen choughs at Bird Rock :)

I haven't actually seen the chough at Broadwater, but I have seen them up on the mountain behind me - however, I have seen curlew, and lapwing at Broadwater - good place for bird watching

Oh, I knew what you meant. I would've been rather surprised to see choughs at Broadwater...................... Have seen a pair of peregrines at Bird Rock. Ravens too. It's a strange spot - quite weird to see a cliff in the middle of a valley!!

Came past yesterday - Bird Rock was sticking up through the sea mist we had all day - it looked really spooky then.
Frightened the life out of my little grand daughter, told her the Trolls live in Bird Rock - eyes like saucers

BC...howlucky to see parakeets. We had quite a few in Sompting on the south downs, l only found out cause some yrs ago l was helping a friend find her escaped Cockatiel (sp), we were very surprised to see loads more up there....and she found hers:o)) he was a treasure, he used to help her make the beds by pulling the sheets upto the pillows, aww bless him :o)))

I know, Jude, they are a great sight and there are more and more in the park, as the years go by, so the climate must be getting tropical! . I love the stories about how they arrived here. The nicest one is, they were brought in for The African Queen film and let go when the film finished:-) lol BC XX

Forgot to tell allthat on Thursday we were in Warminster or near there and saw a pr of Egrets take off from the stream that runs along the side of the road and then whilst in the carpark of pub:o)) we saw a kingfisher.....wow what a beauty:o) How can l forget to tell you that.....quite easy l spose, my forgettingness is getting worse:o((( lol

Hi Jude and everyone, and hello Tec nice to see another member on here. My birdwatching is non existant(sp) this morning, with hubby at home we have been turning cupboards out ready for our move. I will miss my garden a lot and all my birds.
He went out a while ago to fill the feeders and when he came in there was a flurry of feathers as they all descended on the tree.
Thanks Dormouse, skein, that's the word I couldn't remember.

Tec my next door neighbour has a double feeder with wire mesh big enough to let the small sparrow size birds in but keep the starlings out, inside is a normal peanut feeder, maybe that is what you need.

I have never seen a kingfisher, there were two birds I wanted to see, that was one of them and the other a Goldcrest. Since we moved here and started going birdwatching at Ogden water we see loads.

Y/Caz....l hope your move goes well, have just caught up on that on another thread. You can get bird feeders that stick to the window. Will you have a balcony at the flat? and what views do you have.....just wondering incase you can sit with your binocs!!

Sometimes we see the Kingfisher flitting about by the bridge over the wye, its so fast. Its quite busy there aswell so its not neccessarily only in quiet secluded area's you'll see it.

l actually did some gardening yesterday and the poor birds were chirping at me to clear off, as soon as l went indoors down ca,e the blackbirds, sparrows, jackdaws,w/pigeons,c/doves and l think a couiple of chaffinches.

BC....thats a nice story:o)) spose also loads just escape or are let loose!!

Hello Jude,
I have spotted a kingfisher several times when walking along the riverbank here - brilliant colours.
However, the Environment Agency were busy felling some very mature trees along the bank last week - it seems the roots were weakening the bank - I am concerned that the disturbance will drive the kingfisher away. I have also met a badger along there on a few occassions.
The vendetta between me and the jackdaws continues - thankyou everyone who has suggested remedies, but I have tried all these things - I am obviously not going to win.
We have one particular jackdaw who is not afraid of me - we call him "Wing Commander Bolshi" - he will remain swinging on the feeders until I can almost touch him -then flies of at the last second.............laughing.

I guess even jackdaws have to eat!

Well, where have all the birds gone?? Just chaffinches now still feeding like mad. Bought a robin house today which we have put on the fence behind the large mahonia bush. last time we put one there the blackbirds put their nest on the roof of the house!!!

The pidgeons have started having nooky on the top of the greenhouse.Spring is in the air!!!!

Well I suppose they are doing something pleasureable and useful, Helen.....my pigeons just poop all over my patio.....lol BC XX
