This one Stray?...there are three versions if you google

An amazing poem in search of its author

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,

“You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”

The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”

Hi anyone.

David Bowie as Elrond! Now, why hadn't I thought of that? Inspired. He would have been just right.

This is one I like.

Love without hope as when the young bird catcher
Lifted his tall hat to the squire's own daughter
So let the imprisoned larks escape and fly
Singing about her head as she rode by.

Here's one of my favourites by my favourite poet -

THE BOY WHO DANCED WITH A TANK
Adrian Mitchell

It was the same old story
Story of boy meets State
Yes the same old story
Story of boy meets State
The body is created by loving
But a tank’s made of fear and hate

Armoured cars and heads in helmets
Rank on rank on rank on rank
The hearts of the soldiers were trembling
But the eyes of the soldiers were blank
And then they saw him swaying
The boy who danced with a tank

The tank moved left
The boy stepped right
Paused like he was having fun
The tank moved right
The boy stepped left
Smiled at his partner down the barrel of a gun

You remember how we watched him
Dancing like a strong young tree
And we knew that for that moment
He was freer than we’ll ever be
A boy danced with a tank in China
Like the flower of liberty

I thought Elrond was perfect! I read somewhere that Peter Jackson wanted David Bowie, which would have worked as well.

I read LotR in 48 hours, the first time I read it. Dad was an English teacher and had heard about it on the "bush telegraph" long before it was well known. I'd enjoyed the Hobbit so he bought it for me, not realising how long it would be.

I lapped it up then read it again properly. I've read it lots of times since and still find something new in it every time.

Beautiful writing.

Smile.though you feel like crying
Laugh,even though you are sad
Be glad that the rain is falling
And life wont seem half as bad
Try to look on the bright side
Even though the outlook is dim
There is always someone to listen
God is near when you call out to Him.

Have kept this to myself all night(except by pm to Whirls) but the strangest thing....

Tonight got a contact from someone I've never heard of who's apparently been adopted, but who's birth mother is someone with the same name, dob and residence as my mum - mum passed away 15+ years ago, so can't ask her, and have waited all night for a response but nothing.

can't leave; def no chance of sleeping.......
