Lee, you could always ask them about Joe - A beautiful black lab, about 2 years old i think...

He needs a bit of training but is house trained!!

He'd love long country walks ;-))))))

Hi Lou

Cant really explain what Rocky was....longish in body like a sausage dog type, with a sort of corgi face...lol

He was a real little character.

Hubby really wanted him, but the staff said he was quite old, so we didnt think it fair having two small kiddies, they wouldnt have given him peace at all!!!

The lab sounds lovely, although we did think more on the lines of a smallish dog, we already have two cats and an African grey.

There are times when I could willingly dump our dog!!! LOL.

He's ex-rescue from the Dogs Trust - and he has "problems" bless him, but he'd been in kennels for a year when we got him so it's to be expected I suppose.

I'm planning on getting the local dog whisperer to visit in the New Year to help us sort him out. We have successfully regressed him to a puppy - that was the last bit of advice we had - but now we have to work out the two or three remaining issues.

I love having a dog around - don't care about the hair and the toys all over the sofa - love him to bits.

We are on our 4th rescue dog

2 from RSPCA
1 from Dalmation Resue
1 from private rescue

Love my animals to bits, hate to see them being ill-treated.

Maybe this country should do what the Americans do and Jail people found guilty of neglect and abuse.
Either that or do to them what they have done to the poor animal

A Doggy Wonderland

Dog tags ring, are you listenin'?
In the lane, snow is glistenin'.
It's yellow, NOT white - I've been there tonight,
Marking up my winter wonderland.

Smell that tree? That's my fragrance.
It's a sign for wand'ring vagrants;
"Avoid where I pee, it's MY pro-per-ty!
Marked up as my winter wonderland."

In the meadow dad will build a snowman,
following the classical design.
Then I'll lift my leg and let it go Man,
So all the world will know it's
mine-mine-mine!

Straight from me to the fencepost,
flows my natural incense boast;
"Stay off of my TURF, this small piece of earth,
I mark it as my winter wonderland.

I nearly dumped one of our Labs, Trader, this morning. Lol.

Cut a fruit bun in half for the OH, ready to go in the toaster.

Turned away for a few seconds.

Next time I looked there was an empty plate and Trader's jaws just chewing the last of it.

He got sent to his cage for a few minutes, but I am sure it won't be the last time: Fagins brats have nothing on him.

I have 3 cats all related all rescued & 2 dogs rescued it would be nice if folks wanting animals would look at the rescue option first then maybe the breeders would not have such an easy time selling pets. a friend has just rescued a lab one of last christmas's cast offs the injuries that dog has suffered are enough to make your blood boil. Merry Christmas to real animal lovers everywhere. Gen xxx

Hi everyone

I know it's disgusting the way some people treat their animals. Loyal loving pet's.

A lot of places will be full on the run up to xmas and no doubt there will other's after the novelty has worn off.
I sent my rellies an email to say I wasnt sending them cards this year and I am giving to the pdsa and
rspca. Some of them are doing the same.

Many Tears is one of my Favourite rescues!!!
(I have a link to them from my site!)

i did want to say - now i've thawed out and am less grumpy, that it's not just dogs at this time of year - it's alsorts of animals being dumped....!

I'm going to nudge up that animal thread (think it was Cris?) Please help if you are able - to make a donation to an animal charity near you (old bedding would do!) anything you can afford....xxx

ps. Joy - if you don't eat those chocs soon i'll be driving down to help you ;-)))

Regarding rescue versus going to a breeder, remember that most pedigree breeds have a rescue organisation - that's where we got ours from and he was a rare breed so I'm sure most breeds will have dogs needing homes.

Heres a poem that was in our local rspca news letter:
By Darryl Ashton,
Puppy Love For Flora

I'm shut behind this stair gate
And I'm only six months old
My owner says I pee and chew
And don't do what I'm told

I try to be a good dog
like the greyhound in the hall
But Blosson's ten and sleeps a lot
And that's no fun at all

I'd like to be the other side
Don't want to be alone
But chewing everything in sight
Is more fun than a bone?

I'll have to try much harder
To do the things I should
Then I might hear the magic words
"Oh Flora! You are good "
