My MIL was wonderful, never had a bad word to say about anyone bless her. She was even better than my own mum which is hard for me to say. My parents don't consider my sons as being their grandchildren as they won't be carrying on the name. Needless to say I'm no longer in touch with them.

The worst was my FIL not MIL. We called our son Remi, and FIL said I wouldn't give THAT name to a dog.

My M.I.L told me she didn't like me,
that was 46 yrs ago when i married her son.
then just after my F.I.L died in 1983 she
said we should be friends .
i can only say that we were never friends.

Nolls from Harrogate

Nolls from Harrogate Report 27 Nov 2007 22:13

Mine said when she had her family up for a tea (sandwiches) "You don't like mustard and they all have it on and there's only one salmon sandwich each!!!

AnnCardiff Report 27 Nov 2007 22:20

you must have been overcome with emotion - one sandwich! Love Harrogate by the way - visited when I stayed with my son in York

Valerie

Valerie Report 27 Nov 2007 23:05

When it appeared my son (her only grandson) was lefthanded she asked 'Where did that come from? He certainly didn't get it from OUR side of the family!"
I know lefthandedness was really discouraged but was there any need??? LOL
....and what about odd gifts - one Christmas she gave me a rotary handwhisk, another year it was an ironing board. Neither of which I had felt were missing from my life.

NO NEED WHATSOEVER - WHAT AN IGNORANT OLD BIRD TO BE SURE!

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 27 Nov 2007 23:26

good for you - you'd have been a hypocrite to have gone - my father in law was nastier than my mother in law - a bully not just to me but to all his kids as well

RoseoftheShires

RoseoftheShires Report 27 Nov 2007 23:33

My mother in law told me and my husband when we said we wanted to adopt cause we can't have children that we hadn't tried hard enough and that we if we adopted they wanted nothing to do with it nice eh? We are gutted one because we can't have kids and two that they aren't supporting us
Rachx

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 27 Nov 2007 23:39

Oh Rach - ignore them, go for your dream - there are lots of little ones just waiting for a home and you are there longing to give them such a place - go for it and if they don't want to be involved well leave them to it - they will be the losers and end up lonely and forgotten. Go for it

Whirley

Whirley Report 2 Dec 2007 11:13

the worst thing my MIL could say to me is

Whirley puts house up for immediate sale, at knock down price.......whoosh am gone.....
