I can't begin to imagine how people survive sleeping on the streets in this cold weather, and of course some don't. Some like my residents are warm and safe they will be housed from the centre, but its not over for them yet, most have suffered badly in the past months they have either fled from violence or abuse of some kind, they arrive distraught with young kiddies clinging to them. some arrive with just the clothes they are wearing. Its not just women that suffer abuse i have had men as old as 75yrs. who was treated so badly he could no longer live at home. There is no age limit to becoming homeless and the reasons are many., don't judge these people as you really don't know what they may have endured.

Good for you linda, I had a lot of toiletries and hair products put away for my residents for xmas, but ended up giving most of them to a young pregnant girl at the centre as she has very little. but im stocking up on all sorts of things ready for xmas for the residents.

Managed to buy some reasonably priced scarves and gloves yesterday whilst christmas shopping. Will add them to the small pile I now have and get them boxed up soon.

As i said on my thread, Maisie sent a box
that just about had everything in for one of my residents at the centre, this is the young girl who is wearing pyjama bottoms to go out in as she has nothing else to wear. Well she has now thanks to our Maisie. This young girl was thrilled with her gifts, you would have thought she had won the lottery. She hasn't taken her new slippers off since she got them, im sure she sleeps in them bless her. I get quite tearful when i see how grateful these people are for things we take for granted.

Bless you Deanna, I do exactly the same!! Then when you read Shirley's reply it says it all doesn't it?
We are so fortunate. Today has been the coldest so far, and it's bitter again tonight.

Shirley Ann Report 23 Oct 2007 08:49

I have a young pregnant woman in my centre who has been going out in black pyjama bottoms as that is all she had to fit her, and no money to buy anything else.
This is just one example of what the homeless are faced with.

Hi Maisie, the homeless live in my mind all winter through.
i can get quite boring about it.
I spend time etalking about my lovely warm bed and my duvet etc etc.... but we give all our useful garments, shoes, blankets etc, to the night shelter at Northampton.
My friend Mary and her husband take ours and theirs through together.
Bless anyone who is not in a warm bed tonight.... it is so cold out there.

I have nudged this thread as i think it is a very worth while thread, and if it makes just one person aware of the plight of the homeless then its worth it.

Nudge

Shirley Ann I was meaning that they get together and cope the best they can. Sometimes it's hard to find them and help them too
