Now that it has turned very cold can you please remember the homeless people. While we are nice and warm and have had a nice hot meal, there are those that are sleeping rough.. If you have any warm coats, bedding etc maybe take them to The Homeless Refuge Centre near you.
There but For The Grace of God go any of us.

how would i find my nearest refuge?

as i do have blanket's, sleeping bag's...ect

Have a look in Yellow pages lynn. There is nearly always a salvation army hostel in most large cities, or your local church will probably know. A lot of the Churches now go out and do soup runs. That is so kind of you lynn. Love Maisie x

As Maisie has said there are many people sleeping on the streets and in homeless centres all over this country, we are not just talking about adults here, i have been running a centre for 16yrs and i have whole families staying at the centre, they arrive at times with just the clothes they are wearing..at the moment i have 5 families who through no fault of their own are homeless. i have 3 babies and a 2 yr old amongst them. they will probably be with me over Christmas, so all the presents you didn't use from last year that you have tucked away at the back of a drawer, why not take them along to your local centre they may be the only gifts they receive.you can find out where your nearest centre is through your local council.

Hi Shirley Ann,I now work in a homeless hostel for families.I still go round to the drop in centre with clothes(the homeless families give me)to give to all the young men and boys that are left to live rough on the streets.Please everyone think of these people.They are not all bad. Annie

we have northeast helplink up here and our church regularly donate tins of steak and veg,fruit,custard,rice pud,pasta and corned beef.
Also blankets,sleeping bags and warm clothing.
helplink also make up packs of necessary toiletries
which they give out to each needy person who turns up for a meal.
all the work relies upon volunteers and donations so even if you can only offer a couple of tins of soup it can help someone to have a hot meal.
I add my plea to the others here to ask you to help in whichever way you can this winter

Hello Grannie, great to hear you are now working with the homeless, as you siad they are not all bad, most you see are homeless because of very sad circumstances., most turn to drink and drugs after they end up on the streets .
When you pass someone sitting in a doorway a hello costs nothing and that hello or smile maybe the nicest thing that has happened to them in a long while. look beyond the dirty clothes and you might just see a fellow human being who may well have gone through something awful in their lives that has put them where they are now.

My daughter is still working for the YMCA and has just opened their newly finished hostel, very short of all the basics for those who arrive as they stand. Needing bedding, towels, toiletries and basic kitchen equipment = knife fork spoon plate cup etc. So had a good sort out and all those things pushed to the back of the cupboards was taken out and passed on.

Will try to make up some boxes again this year

I don't add very often but I just wanted to show my support to this thread.
Thank you to all those who help the homeless on a daily basis. Like many more, I help as often as I can and will continue to do so.

a very valid point.we are so very lucky,and we dont always think about theses things.in september we sorted through all our old blankets and old jumpers.all in good condition.its always worth knowing your items will be put to good use.even saucepans and plates etc.all will come in usefull.
a lovely lady called shirley ann always did so much to help.and put a homeless message on the boards.so remember find your local homeless society and give.x

Tinkle, thank you for your support. and oh how gratefull i would be if someone would drop a load of crockery and cutlery off at our centre ,we are always running out. i run out at home sometimes as i end up taking it to the centre. lol.

Shirley,I love being a part of these peoples lives.They are so grateful for anything you do for them.My co worker and me have been back in out of hours and painted the communal areas and have put up net curtains as the blinds make it look very clinical.Put pictures up and little nik naks.The children we cant get rid of and think we are a part of there family.These people i think are safe.My heart really goes out to the men and boys who are not priority.Why do councils think they are not human and can deal with living on the street. annie
