We agree on many things, then, Christine, as ever. lol.

I don't believe we will ever see the same unity of purpose again on general as there was with the support for Gaynor when she was ill.

Times change but it's natural for people of my immense age to have nostalgia for happier times past.

Good Morning All,

Agree with David (the original Divine One), Gwynne and Jeanette.

I felt so much had disappeared from these boards until 3 weeks ago when I was amazed to find how much support I got from old and new members alike.

The boards have definitely changed, and not for the better in some cases, but if anyone needs support it will always be found here.

Age brings wisdom though Gwynne, as you show with a lot of your posts.

Morning Jean, I received support recently too as did Clive's family and Honey's grandaughter.

Hi Chris,

This morning I feel a lot older than my real age.............

Let's just say the Summer of 69 holds many happy memories and leave people to do the sums, shall we?

Mo..............good morning, you are very funny and good at the quizzes

Chris.............a thread I posted to counter the negative ones on the same subject got me the nasty PM's........never again!

Gwynne.......I was 15 in '69, too young and innocent for any real fun! lol

*gets the calculator out to guess CC's age*

Carol, I wouldn't disagree with everything you've said but to turn one of your questions back to you, how would you feel if every time you tried to add a more serious and thought-provoking thread it was virtually ignored and was pushed down very quickly?

Because she can no longer read the boards, I can say that this is what happened to Dee the Biblomaniac. Although her quizzes were popular, she is a sensitive and intelligent soul who enjoyed discussing a range of subjects but most that she started vanished with only a few adding. That's very hurtful for those of a sensitive nature. They have a right to be respected to. Very few will carry on trying forever when there efforts get them nowhere.

Men can father children into their 80's, so you must all be very young! lol

I think there were less arguments on the site during the earlier days as predominately the boards were of a genealogical nature.

We had our fun too, quizzes, my now departed old conga thread, debates, good humour and fun.

More people would add to the threads because in those early days, it was free to do so on certain boards.(think this was the guest book)

It was a bit like a train station, fast moving threads, keeping our minds quick.

Now and again the odd flare up would occur. as it would do in a room of people who met up on a regular basis.

Then we got bogus members registering & posting nasty stuff during lunchtimes, and after school (get my drift ? )

Gr closed the boards to full members only

Overnight the board went from fast pace to snails pace. Threads stood still for ages.

Membership shot up and so did the posters, we learnt we could change our names..

we did so. It was the worst thing Gr could have possibly done. it was then the boards changed for I believe the worst..

It enabled a minority of members (minority in meaning a few, no particular individual) to change their names just to cause trouble, others joined to cause trouble as new members, but sometimes it was an existing member with an extra new account who used their knowledge of past rows to stir up trouble

I like the idea of having a real name and board name, however I think when we register or proper name it should be only changeable with the consent of gr, so in every case, when you click on the boardname, a true name is revealed each time.(even though I know in some cases a surname shown can be damaging for the person for their own circumstances, they could change it with Gr consent

I'm optimistic this new look site will also bring a more peaceful board..

Here's hoping.

Respect for others feeling seems to be lacking in debates, as Uggers has just said.

Mo I know of several others that feel the same way about debates........I am not a coward, but I still get hurt by those who seem to enjoy being cruel to others.

Good morning all,

Well as Kitty has pointed out men can father children into their 80's. My dad was born in 1914, I am happy to reveal my age, I was 49 last month, so Christine does that make you 48? :))

I am also relatively new to GR and I too, like many others, only post on what I consider 'safe threads'
I hate arguement and, always have, I would hate to upset anybody or cause a row, so I always avoid controversial threads. As Chrisitne has said I was always told If you have nothing nice to say then don't say it, and I live by this.

I enjoy the boards on the whole. I read many threads but only add to those I feel comfortable with.

Sadly Carol the power is with the people who decide to target anyone they see as weak or sensitive.................not pleasant and very difficult to stop.

It is rare, but the danger of sticking your neck out puts a lot of members off posting on debates, hence the increase in fun threads maybe.

I think you're right, Carol - the boards have changed and have become something different. But you can't blame those of us who enjoyed it more how it used to be in the first 2 or 3 years for reminiscing a bit - especially on a thread where we've been asked what it used to be like.

Uggers......I have enjoyed reading your answers and understand now what some of the issues are

Carol...........I did report them, but the memory doesn't go as quickly as the e-mail reporting them.........hence the hesitation to try again, but I will.

Off for a while now, will be back later,

Thank you all for your posts, I really appreciate them all!
