Some people must just be registering themselves so that they can use the search facilities to pick out potential rellies from other people's entries, whilst keeping their own tree on their personal computer or on paper e.g. a contact who was asking about a mid 1800's name who has only one entry on their GC tree. That's all very well, but it DOES mean that whilst they can find potential links on my tree, I have no chance of finding contacts on theirs. |

I did a quick check of some random memberships and most people only have themselves in their tree. The people who have replied to this message average about 100 entries. Crista |

I know what you're saying, Viv, but this site is designed to enable the exchange of information and what isn't posted can't be received. For example, there are 3 or 4 of us who have connections with the Lazell family in south Essex in the first part of the 19th century. We have made contact and subsequently exchanged useful information a a result of finding Lazells by searchng this site. If those names had not been posted none of us would have been able to establish the initial contact. |

To all I think its time to let this one go,people are going to be very upset. This site is for finding your ancestors, etc - if like Viv and many others, you have tried everyother means, then this site is for finding relatives surely!!!If - as l have said before their is a problem then Stephen P should put in a word or 2. Just give it a rest now and get on with your own search. Jude (s.wales) |

Hi all reading all this with interest, I have not bothered to count mine others can if they are interested, I have some living most dead, the living have all been asked if they mind.My main purpose was/is to try and see if I can link up with other branches of my family, this board has given me one contact and an additional two generations of a branch of my mother family, more history and information. I think it's just great. Tony Warner |

Jim, I have my tree on another programme. With the GC tree I found that my first couple of mistakes occurred in entering names at about the 11 mark, and it is so difficult to correct that I stopped at that point. It seems the only way to amend is to delete the whole thing and start again. As my other tree goes back to 1658 in one branch I could be tied up for a long while |

Hecky thump!!! Didn't know this was all about "beat your neighbour"! I'm not going to be hurried in what I'm finding a fascinating experience on the journey of discovery, for anyone else to disuade me from doing it my way in my own time. I couldn't care less how long it takes me to complete my tree-as long as it doesn't become an irksome task, and remains an enjoyable adventure. |

I think after reading all those missives, I'm missing something. I started building my tree on GC and then went back to just moi meme as I have a reasonably sized tree. I wondered what it would look like with all the info that I had collected over the months. Would anyone like to show me theirs, I'd like to see a large family tree in operation. What is the prob with having living rellies(love that word) on your tree? How does one look at other folks trees? What does a GEDCOM look like on GC? I have Grande Suite 8UK and I'm sure that GC cannot compete with this program, but I'm willing to listen to you experts, Derek Harridence, its a great show!!! |
