Sue In Oz Report 12 Jan 2004 13:47

Evening all from sunny OZ The husband has been away working but tonight he's home so no late searching, chatting, emails etc. I just had an email from a cousin in UK to say she's tracked down some birth certs, and army records for me. I was really excited and shouted out YES!!! Got the glazzed look again! He's watching a movie! and I do make a noise when I laugh at the things on here. Oh well. Must remember to ask when he's going again. LOL ,sorry darling. Sue

Hi Mine spends hours playing Solitaire and Poker on my computer Unless football is on the tele then he says "havn't you got any e-mails to check or are you going on that Genes site." Then he has the cheek to tell me I spend to much time doing it it He pretends he's not interested but quite often tells folk about my hobby and what I have found out about his family He has on the odd occassion trailed round graveyards with me but refuses to go to any records office etc Bren

Oh yes I can relate to these comments, looking for dead people, boring, problems we have are fighting (not literally!) for the computer! He does have the occasional peak at my tree on family tree maker to see where im up to. He is into online gaming and we both work at the same times and have children (luckily they have their own comp in their room) Compromise is definatly a word said through gritted teeth in our house! There is nothing more frustraiting when you know you have found a new lead and your husband is killing and mameing with someone on the other side of the world gggrrrrr :) Jan x

Hi everyone, Just had to add to this thread after reading Claires comments about her husband at the Records Office, i am so glad i am not the only one with such a 'problem' lol. My husband has been really good at listening to me -not that he gets much choice.....and supporting me in this hobby, he has been to a get together and enjoyed it as much as i did, however his willingness to help at the local Records Office is becoming more of a liability than a help. I spend at least half my time waking him up! He either drops off and starts snoring so i have to poke him, or he makes everyone jump when his hand slips off the controls of the microfilm reader. So every few minutes i have to lookup and check on him! I also have to go through everything he looks at afterwards in case he missed that vital entry or clue in between naps! I have suggested he lets me go on my own, but he is so keen to share my hobby he wants to book his day off to come along with me! So next time anyone in Norwich is at the NRO and spots a man snoring....come and say hello! Yvette

I get the glazed look, the 'anorak' comments, the 'obsession' remarks. He got his parents to buy him his own PS2 game for Xmas so he can do that while I am on here! Computer is in a different room, so he gets lonely!! Aaaah! Still, he likes me to have a hobby as it means I can't moan about his golf! He's happy for me to visit churches, villages, record offices etc, but refuses to join in or stop/detour anywhere so I can look or even show him anything. Luckier than some, not as lucky as others - that'll do me! Maz. XX

Mine is interested, has been to GC get togethers with me and enjoyed meeting the people. We have our own computers so he learns to fly while I am on here - or watches sport on Sky. There is a limit to how much he will listen to me going on about it, but that is usual with each others hobbies and I can only stand so much golf talk. I think he is quite proud of how I am doing with research, especially with his family. He also went to a FH Fair with me last year and was fascinated. (He also likes shopping!!) Ann Glos

My husband isn't too excited about the idea of it, my mother has been 'up in her tree' to coin a phrase for the last few years and I couldn't see the point in it myself until I had my son and now the idea of wanting to know where we all come from is facinating Sorry mum for all the micky taking lol, now I am hooked too xx

My hubbie is very good really,,,,listens when i talk about it,,,tells all the family very proudly how far back Iv got and doesnt even mind me sending for certificates and stuff. He also works away a lot so is happy for me to have a hobby,But I draw the line at taking him with me to any record offices after a visit to Durham where he pulled the front off the Microfilm reader in an attempt to turn it on,,!

just looked at the list and its amazing. I can relate to all the comments. Know that glazed look in the eyes very well. I'm on my own a lot as husband works away so I agree with Rachel. Its nice to have someone to talk to instead of the dogs and cats. My dog is jealous though, she sighs when I turn pc on and lies at my feet. Sue

I wish!!! Mine only likes to play Solitaire and Scrabble. When I was late to bed the other night (reading the messages on GC) he asked the next morning if I was on a chat line. I suppose you could call this a chat line couldn't you? Norah in Hampshire

I'm lucky - my partner is as addicted to it as me. We have holidays in different areas depending on which part of the tree we're 'doing' and spend a lot of time together causing chaos in Record Offices. At the moment he's trying to sort out all my notes into an orderly pile so that I can find things easily. :-))))
