I also have a fridge magnet that says 'my udder house is cleaner'. And one that says 'you can touch the dust but please don't write in it'. Someone once said (was it Quentin Crisp?) that after a month the dust doesn't get any thicker. I remember reading that many years ago and it has been my philosophy ever since. I think as long as your loo's clean and your kitchen tidy(ish) the rest of the house can look 'lived in'. Well that's my excuse! LOL Sue

To get back to the subject of plaques I have a hand-made one hanging in our kitchen which says " a tidy house is the sign of a wasted life" and which causes much amusement here in Italy where housewives won't open the door to you if their houses aren't ultra clean and tidy. Catharine in Rome

My wife has a fridge magnet "never trust a skinny cook" That aside, Paula, where does Pollitt come from ? I am researching Pollett in Somerset & Gloustershire and it may be a variation.

Paula Report 1 Feb 2004 12:41

I have only managed so far to trace it back to 1860 in Stalybridge. will let you know more when I know more. I visited a site about pollitt's and there is information on variations and origins of the name type in Pollitt in your search engine and you should get it. Good luck
