As I do most things left handed, I hope I'm not left eyed too, because I have no sight in that eye. Is that why I can't find most of my ancestors?!?

I know some very intelligent people who are right handed and also some left handed people who arent,,,so it just goes to show that its a load of rubbish,!

Hi all, Did you know that being left handed is classed as being in league with the devil? The Italian for left is sinistra - where we get the word sinister from. I always was a little devil and hope that I still am!!! I am left handed but I count money with my right (which is what I do for a living) and I knit right handedly.(?0 I, too, had my left hand tied behind my back when I was a child - a throwback from the sinister bit probably. I'm left handed and write lefthanded, but it was the bane of my life at school cos when i would write anything down my hand would be smudging all my previous work! Although i will pick up a piece of paper with my left hand i would use the scissors with my right..and cannot use scissors with my left. I recently found a shop that specialises in left handed goods. Norah Get him to take a Mensa test. I was trained as a counsellor and one of the things I learnt early on was to seriously doubt those who considered themselves brighter than average. Conversely, those who considered themselves to be stupid were usually deluding themselves. Its what other people find that counts. If a Cro-Magnon from 40 thousand years ago could be dressed in today's garb and sat on a train, no one would notice anything unusual about him - except maybe the smell. Len

I am left handed my father was left handed and my mum was left handed because she had to be her right arm was paralysed I cut paint sew and write left handed I eat right handed when I am ironing I change hands and when I used to play tennis I served with my left hand and then played right handed My daughter who is righthanded for all things except eating then she is lefthanded when I was in infant school I used to get in trouble when the teacher said put up the hand you write with IN sewing lessons in junior school when the teacher was walking round to inspect your work I used to turn mine upside down so it matched everyone else's and then turn it back so I could sew left handed Bren

I am left handed and so is my hubby, our children are both right handed, my hubby can however use his right hand as efficiently as his left but wrrites left handed. Me unfortunately can only use my left hand for most things , writing, sewing, opening or holding utensils in kitchen. One mean teacher in infants told me i had to learn right handed as left wasnt right, well it slowed me down, i couldnt do things right handed as the strength wasnt there or coordination, mum met teacher and needless to say teacher agreed to let me be left. I always say and do things backwards, we are usually more creative, thats because we have to live in a right handed world.

My son just turned 5. His school reading age assessment classed him as having a reading age of over 9 years. He wears us out! And he is left handed. My father is something of a mad inventor. Didn't get much education but has taught himself to do just about everything - including building a freezer from scraps, making working model traction engines etc. We never had anything new as kids - all our presents were home made. I didn't appreciate the cleverness at the time, but I do now. Oh, and he's also left handed. The rest of us are right handed and no geniuses.

I am a leftie and I had the most horrendous time at school when it came to sewing lessons On many occasions I had my skirt lifted and my legs slapped for sewing a hem back to front ,our needlework teacher was an ancient old biddy who belonged in the victorian age.However I wouldn't say I am a genius but I do have the most amazing ability to remember the most outlandish bits of useless information that are only of any use when watching quiz programmes on the telly.

It's been amazing reading through your replies, didn't realise there were so many genius's out there. My left-handed genius was one of six children born to right-handed parents. Three born September, three born December. Three were left-handed, three were right-handed, until they came to eat. Yup you've guessed it. The three right-handers ate left-handedly and the three left-handers ate right-handedly. So this is a much more common occurrence than I had thought. So much fun though. Norah

I'm left handed, and even though I'm at uni etc, I ain't no genius!! hehe. My dad is left handed and he is actually smarter than my mum, but still not genius smart because neither got past O levels. I like the left handed thing, the only thing that bugs me is that apart from my dad, only one other person in my family is left handed, and she's a cousin, but to be left handed it has to come from both sides of the gene pool somehwere, same with having ginger hair. I want to know which ancestors I got it from! But sadly it's that kind of information that we'll never find out. :-( Chloe PS - when I first started writing, with my left hand of course, my mum thought I was weird and started putting the pencil in my right hand! If the population of the UK is about 58 million and 5% are genii, The proportion of left-handers is 13.6% so that works out at 394 thousand left-handed genii. The remaining 86.4% being righthanders would, therefore, have 2.5 million genii (or geniuses, if you prefer) in their ranks. Of course, there is no where near 5% genii. It is calculated (by Mensa) that only about 2½% of the population is bright enough to graduate from university (a few don't who should and a few do who shouldn't - but let's ignore that) and few of those would qualify as a genii.
