Just been reading Bob's recipe thread and wondered what dishes you all rate highly in the culinary stakes? My favourites are: Spag Bol, Salmon in Hollandaise sauce, Peking Duck in Mandarin sauce, and Pizza (oh yes!). Don't really have a favourite when it comes to desserts.... |

Fish 'n'chips with mushy peas (in the paper they are wrapped in) Plenty of salt and vinegar. Whenever I go up to Nottm. I meet up with friends and we have a pub meal. On the last two occasions however, we have all met up at a friends house and had fish and chip[s as above. Everyone says it's the best so far and should have done it long ago. Norah in Hampshire |

Well, it kind of depends ! Top 5 for me: Duck/pancakes/plum sauce Pasta/chicken/pesto/spinach/parmesan (with a side salad!) Lamb Dhansak or Ceylon/Sag Aloo/Rice & Bread Chicken Fajitas with all the gubbins Steak in onion gravy with mashed potato & cabbage The last one's the best hangover cure in the world too ! Rick. |

I should have added also, Sunday roast with Yorkshire Pud (naturally) and all the trimmings (in particular roast potatoes cooked next to the meat for added flavour). Can't believe I left that off my list! :-o |

I'm with Andy, for the good old roast Sunday dinner, roast beef, yorkshire pud, roast and mash potatoes, veg and loads of gravy and horseradish or mustard. There is nothing I like to cook more!! And to finish of? Apple crumble with loads of custard or I do a yummy plum and marzipan crumble!!! |

Ooooooh too much to choose from! Easier to say I don't like cabbage, sprouts, spinach, shellfish such as winkles that look like bogies and ice cream cos it hurts my teeth. Got to go with the majority though and say my faves are probably any chinese duck dish and Sunday dinner with all the trimmings - best cure for a hangover I know. Jeanette |

We visited England when I was about 15. Had fish and chips, wrapped in newspaper (is that still done?) and haven't been able to find ANYWHERE in California that has a similar recipe. Can still taste the vinegar and salt, now about 30 years later. PS Living in California, have to add, some family-owned restaurants have WONDERFUL burritos, made out of cheese, hot peppers, beans, sour cream (not too keen on that), guacamole (spelling?), hot sauce and those who like meat also have either beef or chicken. Yum! |

This might lower the tone of this thread but what I just can't resist is the skin on top of cold custard - to me it makes the perfect breakfast when there's some left over from the day before. |

mine has to be the same as Daphne,stotty cake with ham and pease pudding,or just pease pudding on toast.Everytime I got to Sunderland I stock up on fresh pease pudding with bits of ham in it from the local grocers shop! I also love making"soup"sandwiches.That must be a hereditery thing as my mum tells me my granddad used to do the same. anna |

Definate 1st choice is Roast beef, roast spuds, Yorkshire pud, sprouts and loads of gravy + horseradish. 2nd choice is Chicken Madras/boiled rice with Onion barjie, poppadums or chapatti and some of the chutnies |
