Hi Terri, I've only been doing this properly since Christmas but I think they only reason I have about 300 is because everyone seems to have had about 10 children. Think it must be the Irish!! Amy x P.S - I think unique surnames just means the number of different surnames in your tree. For example you have 300 people in your tree but they all have the same 30 surnames. If that makes sense!! |

hi naomi i think the unique names are the less common,ie carley is less common that green, and hyphenated that are original ie jones went to addison-jones used mine as examples. hi terri i think i've been doing mine since end 2003 got stuck in the last couple of months sandra |

I have 129 names with 40 odd unique ones. What does that mean exactly as I don't have any that are only in my tree. |

2490 with 659 unique - but I have been doing this since 1954. They are all verified and all over the world. My question - how do you keep track besides on the computer? I use two systems - one a postcard size card with each family's name and all the children of the parents and their spouses. Each group is fastened together with a brass clip. This I use when I search on the net. I also use 3 ring binders for each branch with a page for each person in alphabetical order. This way I can quickly look up when someone sends me a query. Lots of work, lots of fun but I'm retired (?) and my time is my own! |

The trouble with name counts, on GC, is for example if several different members of "your clan" put the SAME names in, as being in THEIR tree, there will be errors. I have the same names entered many times........eg there are 87 Hedaux's on GC but i know for a fact that there are only about 40 separate identities. |

On GC I have 269 with 66 unique surnames....but on my family tree programme i have over 800....of course ,lots of them have the same surname,I think its all down to no birth control and large families. |

I have 1,320 in my tree at last count (some more waiting to be added). I don't put them all on GC as I tend to concentrate my GC tree on direct ancestors, and don't usually add people I have found out about through others until I have personally verifed them. Exceptions are when I need desperately to find out if others are researching a person. Angela |

I have 310 names with 65 unique surnames - had no idea I had that many already!! Have only been doing this for about 6-8 weeks. Most of mine are coal miners or ag labs and I have Brown, Smith (doesnt everyone), Johnson. I also have a few less common names tho so I guess it balances out. Lindsey |

Amy I dunno!! But when I click on your name, it tells me that you have 339 in your tree! I wonder if some of them are duplicated? Perhaps someone else can offer a suggestion? How many have I got when you click on MY name? According to my Names Summary I have 258 with 57 unique names. Janet |
