I can't get through to the feedback page so here is a niggle made public - I keep finding lots of contacts that you have made on my behalf, thank you but can you colour them differently to the ones I have made personally? best regards Dave |

Hi Dave, I am sorry but I am not entirely sure what problems you are having using the site. Please could you try contacting me again via the link for support. If that does not work then please post your query here and I will do my best to help you. Hope this is okay with you, Estelle. |

Hi Dave When I first saw your message yesterday, I wasn't sure what you meant because it didn't occur to me that GC made contacts on your behalf. I've just viewed all the new names for my tree and have discovered 'contacted' beside someone who I definitely didn't contact! Does this mean that GC have contacted them on my behalf? And if so, what do they say to them? And why do they do this, because I'm as sure as I can be that the person listed is not related to me? Sorry to bombard you with questions this early in the morning, but I'm a bit embarassed that GC are contacting people that I don't particularly want them to!! Thanks Dave, best wishes Mandy :) |

Hi Mandy. That has happened to me. There was a new name on List and when I clicked onto it it had Connacted already..But I didn't.. I in fact got in touch with the person about a different name.so perhaps this automatically done for us.. Bit embarassing when you have to say. The boeards says I've contacted you but do not know what about!!! Pat |

Hi, I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I managed to send out an email to Estelle - genes team last night and I'm now waiting for a reply. I've just had another thought though perhaps when we email someone re 'Joe Bloggs' or whoever then 'contacted' in red is placed against all their names? I would definately like to see direct email contacts in a different colour. xx dave |

Hi everyone. I have wondered about this in the past too. I don't think G.R. make contacts with anyone on your behalf, what I think happens is if you contact someone about a name that is in your tree, it shows contacted against ANY name that person has in their tree, even if it's not one in yours. I also wondered if perhaps when you contact someone about perhaps a query on one of the boards, if that too shows up beside their names as contacted. It is pretty confusing if it does. Does anyone else know if thats the case? Christine |

Christine I think you're right. From my own experience, (Contacted) appears next to all the names included in the tree of any person you have had contact with in any way - either directly responding to a person found in a search, replying to a message on the boards, or if they have contacted you. |

Hi, it's me again! I haven't contacted anyone at all with the surname that has 'contacted' beside it. It's my newly-discovered uncle's wife's family, which is why I'm waiting for the go-ahead from him before I make any contact. This is why it's rather embarassing if GC has made the contact on my behalf. I shall follow this thread with interest, and maybe you could share GC's reply Dave. I shall certainly email them myself today. Best wishes, Mandy :) |

My cousin is a GC member and when we made contact with each other, he let me have access to his tree. Afterwards, all his contacts showed up as 'contacted by me' even though I didn't physically do it myself. Aileen |

Hi Dave I think that Christine and Lesley are correct when they say that when we contact someone the 'Contacted' appears next to every name in their tree. If you click on the envelope next to the name it will tell you the name of the person you contacted. Heather |

Sorry Margaret, The 'contacts' that we are talking about do not appear in the contacts lists they just appear as a red (contacted) note to the RH side of the names. Clicking on the evelope just says who to contact for an enquiry about that particular name. I always start my GC sessions by having a look at what new names there are, then if I am interested I will look at individual names and that is where I found the 'contacted' notes xx Dave |

Dave It sounds as if someone you have contacted before has added some new names. Heather |

Every now and then I see new names added, like at the moment I can see a name next to new names. When I clicked on to it, it said a name and I thought to my self I have never contacted this person. But thinking back it was when I first started over a year ago and the person in question I contacted for help rather than a connection. So anybody you see with new names and it says you have contacted, you have in the past even if they are not in your contact list anymore. And dont forget a lot of people can change their names so it can be confusing but honestly people you have contacted them or they have contacted you. I know I am not good at explaining things but I know what I am saying. and this subject has been bought up in the past before. |

No, I definitely have never contacted the person or indeed anyone on their tree since joining GC 2 months ago. In fact, I have only contacted one person about their tree - someone from my 'adoptive' family - and 'contacted' has appeared beside someone vaguely connected to my 'birth' family (I have two separate trees with two separate logins). I know for sure that neither of us have contacted each other and it has caused me some embarassment because that part of the family do not yet know of my existence. I'm not trying to argue with anyone here (honest!) but I'm convinced that GC have done this! Mandy :) |

perhaps someone might want to test it out. If someone wants to contact me through Genes. then I will be in your contact list. Then delete my name in your contacts so I am no longer there. Then do a name search for Baugh one of the names in my tree. and see if my name shows up even though I am no longer in your contact list anymore. Debbie |

Dear all, sorry about the delay in replying to this. You may see the word ‘contacted’ in red if the same member, whom you have already contacted has also entered the other relation names that you have searched for. The system will pick up that you have already contacted the member that has added all the other relation names you are looking for too. For example, you may contact them about a John Smith, then on looking at the other entries for Smith you will see the word 'contacted' as this same member has also added these other names too. You can contact the members again by clicking on the mail icon again to ask directly about the other names in their tree. I hope this makes sense. Best wishes, Estelle |
