Hello again. Had a great day in the garden today - pruned the climbing roses - gave them a real 'haircut' this year. We cut the lawns, trimmed the edges, did some weeding. Pruned my lemon tree - it was getting straggly. Planted the last of my bulbs in tubs and pots. Daffs & Freesias. Bit late really but I had planted the others some time ago and just didn't get around to these last few. Really enjoyed being in the garden - no wind for a change. Our neighbours leave at 6 a.m. in the morning for the UK. Hope to be up to wave them off! They are so excited about seeing the grandchildren. Tomorrow I have the U3A computer group meeting here. Find it really interesting although a lot of the topics are above me but I am learning! Saturday we are off for the weekend - have a 21st birthday party to go to. Could be a little hectic I fear. We have just heard that a bus load of Rugby Players will be there!! It is free drink and food. Spit Roast lamb and spit roast pig. The group will apparently play some of the oldies for us oldies to jig around too and maybe sing lol. Will let you know how it goes. Will be doing some baking in the morning for the computer groups afternoon tea. Cheese scones and chocolate muffins I think. Off to bed now - ready for the early start! Goodnight to you all. Hi friends, A rainy day here today, so didn't need to get the hose out. though I'll still need to turn on the fawcett to the garden at the side of the house tomorrow, where the two fir trees and a stand of aspens are. They block much of the rainfall from getting to my flower beds. Anyway, the rain, and John being in the workshop all day meant I could attack the housework, so I washed all the floors and cleaned all the mirrors and glassware. Just remembered I was going to switch the self clean on in the oven, but I forgot. Oh well, theres a job for tomorrow, or the next day.....! After lunch I sat and finished off a skirt, then did some more of my jigsaw. I'm trying not to fall asleep in the afternoon, as I feel so disgusted with myself when I wake up. John's improving in leaps and bounds now he has a new, live pacemaker. He's been working hard getting things ready for his kayak project, and can now go for a good walk, though he doesn't like walking, so tries to shorten it when he can! But thank goodness we got him to go to the doctor, and that the doctor sent him to the internist straight away, instead of waiting for the specialist appointment in September. He would probably have expired by then, as well as the pacemaker!!! John's niece is coming to dinner on Sunday which will be lovely as we haven't seen her since just after Christmas. We're going to have steaks done on the new barbecue, and I'm going to make a crumble with fresh rhubarb from the garden and apples from the garden last year, which I froze. Looks as though there's another nice crop developing this year too, and the pear tree looks pretty loaded too. The pears are good but they always seem to have rather a scabby skin, so I freeze some, and one year I made pear mincemeat, which was delicious so think I'll do some this year too. We went for a walk down by the shore with Ross yesterday and the blackberry crop looks like being a good one this year, still green as yet, but it won't be long befor they're ready. I'm trying to find a big, heavy bottomed, inexpensive pot to make jam in, but no luck so far, except for some in a local hardware store, prices ranging from $130 and up. I don't think so!!!!! Hi Dorothy, where in Canada are you? I'm in the furthest southwest corner of BC mainland, in Tsawwassen. I used to enjoy watching the tennis too, until the girls starting grunting and the boys starting throwing tantums. How lovely to have a lemon tree in the garden Mavis. We use a lot of lemons so wish we could grow one here. Hi Brenda, how is the job going now? Hope you're managing to sleep a bit better now. I've been trying hard not to fall asleep after lunch which I always do if I sit down, and then don't get good sleep at night; have lots of wild dreams and nightmares, and wake up exhausted! So now I do a jigsaw when I sit down and find I am sleeping better. I have a cat sitting beside me trying to attract my attention, so I'd better go feed the beast. Also his tummy is making the strangest noises; maybe he's eaten a mouse that didn't agree with him! Love to you all, Di.xxx

Hi all ,i am home for a couple of hours before i go back to work ,so i had better get something added to this thread before i get a telling off from the boss lady. It is nice to hear that John is so much better Di,only thing is ,now ,you will have to speed up or you will be lagging behind hee hee. Th bro' in law has just had the same type of op' on his hand as Sylvia had a few weeks ago ,and can't drive for two weeks, which is a problem seeing as he is the head team leader in a cleaning firm, and can't afford his teams lying idle. To cut a long story short ,i agreed to fill in for him because he needs to keep paying the morgage. He and the missus work together for the same firm, and have started ,and nearly finished [11 months to go] a morgage and have flogged their guts out to do it ,so i wasn't going to stand by and see them slip into bother hence going back to work for two weeks.i can't call it work really ,i am only driving the van after all . Some of the homes i have been to so far beggar belief, one [Wylam manor ] where i was this morning started off its life in 1878 as a lordly private gaff and was taken over in the 1920' as a convalesent home by Newcastles Royal Victoria Infirmary,,on of our top hospitals. Wimpey bought it a few years ago and converted it into luxury apartments, tre posh and will cost both arms and legs. Right at the bottom of the private drive on the right with a view to die for over the tyne valley and hills is a luxury millionares home, and having seen Shearers home ,i have to say Allan ,eat your heart out lol,if i sold my house i couldn't afford the garage at this place. I have the day off tomorrow to give Liz a hand to get the pies and flans ready for the party,we will be making them this evening.and cutting and taking them across first thing in the morning,we will then come home to go across by metro in the afternoon to set every thing out. Had a nice time last evening, going out on this job,and being forwarned ,we parked the car on top of the shopping centre in Gosforth and as they went in to start work,i walked out of the centre into the park next door with a bottle of pop and a couple of sandwiches ,sat there for an hour watching the kids playing tennis ,and football, while the team were in the centre working their tails off, I hadn't been sat in the car two minutes before they came out, which just left me with the drive back to their house ,and a lazy walk back to the house and tea,cor ,it brings back the old days ,opening the door to the smell of tea filling the kitchen [ i could get used to that] again hee hee. well ,i'm off to get some dinner ,a couple of crackers and cheese probably to tide me over thill this evening, when,if i'm lucky ,i may get another meal i won't have to do . See you all later ,take care all .Fred.

HI ALL, Yes, it's little 'ol me, back from the seaside, bucket and spade packed away for another year or two. Oh, didn't we have wonderful weather? In fact it was too warm and forced Johan and I to go back to the hotel in the afternoon and take a nap. I had my scootmobile but Johan (81 years of age) had to walk at my side. We went around the town on Tuesday and found it a pretty little place. On the Wednesday we went to a place called IJmuiden to see the locks. Very peaceful little place to watch the boats going through the locks. On Thursday we looked around Center Parcs itself as we had only seen Center Parcs Hotel. Most of the visitors in the hotel were German. The Germans love to get into Holland in the summer to the sea. Catch you all another time, as I am only just back. Sylvia xxx

Hi everybody, Hi Fitz Waleski! Where in the USA are you? Just peeked in on the Wattlers and saw you there and noted that you mentioned 'here in the USA'. Hi Sylvia, and welcome back to everyday life! Glad to hear that you had a good holiday. Here's a good holiday idea that one of my 2nd cousins and her husband took recently, which sounds like utter relaxation; a cruise down the Rhine stopping at towns for trips ashore, and sightseeing! Wish I enjoyed flying, but I don't so will never do it but doesn't it sound great!? Fred, I think everybody should have a Fred in their family. You are obviously a real treasure to yours and they're very lucky to have you. Your days sound so full too; don't you ever get tired?! Have just been up to the workshop to have a beer with John, and talk about a hive of industry. Bernie noticed a storage trunk John had his tools in, and did a trade with him, and she is at the minute machine sanding it ready to paint, and the air is thick with dust. It probably dates back to the early 1800s, and she loves old things, and restoring them. It's going to be a coffee table/storage trunk.Maybe she could do a restoration job on me!!! lol John is working on his kayak, and I'm going to keep a photographic record of the progress, so will send a pic. as it develops. Hope you all have a good weekend, with sunshine every day! Love to you all, Di xxx

Hi all, Di, Johan and I once did a cruise along the Maas - a well-known river like the Rhine. I actually won this trip so couldn't really complain, but I did write a letter of complaint. The food on board was cooked and dished up by students. We were allowed a certain number of slices of bread at breakfast and couldn't have more. It is many years ago, so cannot quote exactly, but remember at the time thinking how poor it was. The food was so ordinary, nothing special. Well if I am on holiday I like something different, and certainly something I wouldn't cook myself. There again my daughter and her friend used to take an exotic cruise and they always enjoyed themselves. The weather looks good again, and when I get dressed we are off to ex son in law's birthday. I hope he has enough sunshades ! Have a nice day everybody. Sylvia xxx

Hi everybody, Yes, Di this thread quickly slips away if we are not careful. Well today I have had a funny day. All started off ok with Johan vacuuming the flat for me and I did some dusting and tidying up. I moved a plant which was a bit top heavy and it fell and broke - earth all over the floor which Johan had vacuumed and then - blood. I had blood everywhere. A piece of the plant pot must have hit my ankle on a vein and it was really gushing out. I called to Johan but he didn't come so I called out again in desperation. He fetched some towels for me to wrap around my ankle and then I could sit down. My neighbour Annemie came down and cleared up the blood on the carpets and has taken some towels home to wash. Another neighbour bandaged up my ankle. I sat for the rest of the afternoon with my foot up, but then I had to go to the loo, and you've guessed? Yes, the blood came all over the kitchen floor, toilet floor and carpet in the hall. I never knew I had so much blood. I'd had enough of that, so I phoned the doctor and he came round and put some stitches in my ankle for me. Phew! what a day. We had to have sandwiches to eat as I couldn't stand on my ankle to cook. I have to have the stitches out over 7 days. I am supposed to be sitting with my leg up but I find that so difficult, I cannot sit still, so have promised myself a short while on the computer and then leg up again. See you all tomorrow. Hi Friends, Sylvia, what are you doing to yourself, you poor dear! I hope you'll do as the doctor says and take it easy, and you'll heal much more quickly. Brenda, I well remember heatwaves in England; sleepless nights tossing and turning and feeling so uncomfortable, so you have my sympathy. We are so lucky here in the Vancouver area; don't know whether it's the same back east or even the interior of BC. Here, however hot it gets during the day, once the sun goes down, most of the time so does the heat. I think the heat stays overnight in UK homes because the brick houses retain it! Hope you have a good time tomorrow night, whatever you are planning, and we'll see you the following day. I hope you'll be feeling better by tomorrow. Hi to Fred and Mavis, Kathleen and any other drop-ins! It's blue skies here with a slight breeze, as John always says, a perfect day for sailing! Went for a walk this morning, and on the way back noticed a lot of dead daisies on the side beds so pulled them and as soon as the sun starts to go down I must go out and bag them. Also Clay hasn't cut the grass this weekend as he's been up north to One Hundred Mile House, and we have a small forest growing on the lawn, also in my flower beds, so must take the secateurs out with me. John would like to leave them and let a forest grow, but the garden is shady enough already. I'm having a lazy day. Had steaks left over from Sunday as well as some cooked new potatoes and a few stir fried veg. So I picked some peas and snpeas and added a few frozen home grown beans for 2nd veg, sliced and fried the potatoes in a little olive oil, and put the steaks in a casserole, piled the leftover veg, a few sliced mushrooms and pasta sauce on top of the steaks and put in the oven. So, I've had a read, pottered around doing very little, went to the store and picked up the International Express, and 2 sugarless choc bars, (also some samosas for J and a tiddy oggy for me for tea) sat and read and ate choccy bar, played on the computer and actually entered a message on Paul's 'Nice PMs' thread, walked and read some more. What a lovely day. John's in the workshop and I can hear the saw from here, so noone can interrupt me. I know he's happy so I can just get on with doing my own thing! The kayak is well under way, just hope he doesn't ask me to go for a test run when it's finished. I like good solid terra firma beneath my feet at all times! Must go, and finish the dishes, and then do the puzzles in the Int. Express! Take care all, especially you Sylvia. Love, Di. xxx

You know me I cannot sit still, Have the washing machine running and have washed the kitchen and bathroom floors with disinfectant already as after all that mess yesterday, feel they needed it.
