No, I'm not talking about the England performance (which is awful), but the constant "monkey noises" every time one of the black English players gets the ball, its scandalous. |

What do you expect from football supporters? |

Unknown | Report | 17 Nov 2004 22:11 |
No, from the Spaniards, it happened during the Under 21s match last night too apparrently. I shall treat the previous "what do you expect..." comment with the disrespect it deserves - what a tired old cliche that all football fans are morons. |

Linda, They might as well walk off after their own disgraceful behaviour in the first half. |

Jim - you're comparing a few mistimed tackles and a bit of pushing to blatant racism are you ? |

Not surprising when some of the managers use the "n" word live on telly/radio. There is no excuse for that - no normal civilised person would "accidentally" use such racist words - it must be rife from the boadroom to the terraces. Saz |

Paul, What I saw was a lot worse than mistimed tackles. Whatever happened to Sportsmanship? I suppose that went out of the window when the Big Bucks came in. |

What was disgrceful was Wayne Rooney pulling his black armband off and throwing it on the floor. They were wearing them in memory of Emlyn Huges. My husband is saying Errickson should take the team off and get the match stopped. |

Sadly it seems to be rife in Spain. It was the Spanish manager that referred to Henry as a nigger, and it's the Spanish supporters who are guilty tonight. It's very rare to hear anything like this these days... disgraceful |

I think Wayne Rooney is getting a bit above his station, how disrespective can you get. Now he is sitting on the bench drinking beer. |

Big Ron & Frank McLintock have also been guilty in the UK and they've been in football for decades and should know better. |

so they didn't have aggressive sides to the game in the old days then Jim ? Need I mention "chopper" Harris, Norman Hunter et al, players who would laugh at todays "dirty" players. I'm sorry but I have to say that however bad the tackles, whether the games being played in the spirit of a friendly or not (and yes, Rooneys behaviour too), it does not compare to the disgusting racist behaviour of the Spaniards |

I'll bet nothing will be done about it. |

Quite right Lynda. Sadly, Big Ron really made an idiot of himself didn't he - a man well known for playing black players when others would not. Shame. As for anything being done - I beleive a formal complaint was put in last night and I imagine another will go in tonight too - whether or not uafa/fifa will do anything or not is another matter |

Paul You didn't mention Stanley Matthews. Surely the point is that all Sports have rules. If these overpaid Prima Donnas can't obey the rules they should not be playing. All they are doing is sending wrong messages to the next generation. maybe I am a cynical old sod, but were it in my power I would sack players who commit deliberate fouls and make way for those who can display their skills in a proper manner. If Rooney et al want to fight let them go to Iraq. Oh no, they wouldn't do that would they. The wages aren't good enough. |

Good grief Jim, you and your rules !! I'm afraid I'm not old enough to remember Stanley Matthews, although obviously I know of him and his manner of play. I'm sure there are players with an exemplary disciplinary record now too (I just cant think of any off the top of my head - Gary Lineker was a well known paragon of virtue, not that long ago that he played). Personally, I think it's a mans game, and a little aggression can be a good thing. |

The FA did complain to Uefa last night. I'm sure they will do the same again. In the past, some of the Eastern European countries were fined and made to play games behind closed doors. http://news.bbc.*co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/4018421.stm Crista |

Grampa Jim What an appalling thing to suggest. Do you have any idea how bad the Iraqi weather is for your skin? And there's absolutely nowhere in the desert where you can get decent hair gel! nell |
