I do sympathise with you.Write to your MP straight away stress the expence to the National Health service if your husband DOES NOT continue on this drug. Draw up two columns in your arguement and set out those tasks which he is able to do for himself with the drug use,and those tasks he will not be able to do for himself if the drug is withdrawn. Cost in the Services that you will need to provide for him,Washing, dressing ,getting meals, feeding him, bathing him,Taking him to the loo,Remember to include night time carewhich is prohibitively expensive. All of this will far exceed the cost of his drugs. This treatment of our sick and vulnerable is dreadful and makes me furious. It is also so short sighted. This attitude just has a cascade effect and produces more problems which need to be eventually addressed-like your own health and stress. Please fight- Get your local paper and local Tv station involved.Get in touch with Help the Aged and Age Concern. Write to Sally Greengrass c/0 Houses of Parliament, she is a named spokesperson for Help the Aged. She lobbys MP'S gOOD lUCK - Rose

Had a letter from NICE this morning. I could not read it all and tell you what it says. Its one of those long winded 'eplaination of what we do' type letters. But, from the bit I read, it seems that they have had alot of complaints on this issue and will be reviewing it. It will take me some time to read it all. Deanna

YOU HAVE BEEN BUSY!! Thank you all for the terrific response to this thread whilst I have been away! Vic and I really appreciate your help in keeping this issue to the forefront. I'm not sure what has happened regarding the possible reversal of the proposed withdrawal of these medications, so can anyone enlighten me? On a personal note we have had a great break. Thanks again Linda x Thanks Val. Interestingly I have still not had a reply from my MP either to my e mail or personal letter!

Thank you to everyone who has taken on this story, even though some of you are not affected by dementia. It is to everyone's future benefit that these drugs stay available to every dementia patient. Dad's getting all set for the rally tomorrow--told him to behave himself, not to swear on national telly, and not to start a riot! Will let you all know how he gets on. Keep an eye out on the news for a boisterous, stroppy, short Geordie pensioner! Sal.x

Dear Sand Dancer Sal,Thanks for message again, wow do I rage sometimes and cry others!! The local Alzheimers group is attending the rally on Weds. If I didn't work I would go, I've never been on a protest march before but would have gone to this. Hopefully NICE and the government will withdraw this proposal when they see the strength of public/voters feelings (My MP hasn't acknowledged my e mail) If anyone is thinking of e mailing NICE or their MP but hasn't got round to it yet, please do it now while all the focus is on the rally etc. Christine

Just so there's no confusion, the decision has not, as yet, been reversed. Government ministers have spoken out against NICE's decision, but it is up to NICE to respond now. NICE have the authority in this, not government ministers. It's worth remembering that their is an election pending and ministers are more likely to say what they want us to hear at a time like this. I'm sorry to poop the party! Wish it was over but it isn't--yet! For the full story please see www.alzheimers.co.uk There are also details on this site about a rally in London on Wednesday--I'm proud to say that my 78 year old Dad is attending! Sal.x
