Thank you so much for your comments and e mails I really appreciate it. Just wish people would realise this is not a condition that only affects the elderly. Interestingly Julie Anne you mentioned GMTV, just read an article by Fiona Phillips and her mother is a sufferer and was on Aricept, the family felt that gave them an extra year with their mother they wouldn't otherwise have had. can i just add....... ive made a few comments on this thread and its probably one of the most important threads ive seen. i work for a specialized home care team in poole and it is the best job i have ever had.....also one of the saddest but i love every single one of the people i visit (and just like anybody some can be a pain someitmes!) but if i could find a cure tomorrow i would give up everything i have to give people back the quality of life they once had... and one day there will be the preventative medicine maybe not in my lifetime but somebodys lifetime kaz

I'm with you all the way Linda, not only is it not fair on the people with this awful ailment, but it's definitely not beneficial to their carers. my hubby is going spare as we get no help whatsoever and my beloved father -in -law is heaading in the same direction Magi

i AM SORRY TO HEAR THIS-you have done right to contct your MP,also go on the web and find all the organisations which are involved with these types of issues.Help the Aged being one. They do have representation in Parliament and it used to be Sally Greengrass one wrote to.Your Mp should tell you who to contact. kEEP YOUR PROBLEM IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN as much as possible.Make sure you have coverage from your local paper and radio station and get your TV involved.Write to your local paper and get them to print your letter. You will be surprised by the number of people who have a similar problem.FORM A PROTEST GROUP.wE TAKE TO THE STREETS WITH PLACARDS. If you think you can do this, there will be others who will join you. Good Luck - I really mean this-I am a fighter for the rights of the Retired -the welfare state is what we put into it ourselves. It is ours.--Rose

Linda, that is truely disgusting surely it's illegal. Why is money always an issue with everything, this is someones quality of life and health at stake. Take it to the tabloids i'm sure they would jump on a story like this, it's time the government thought about the people not their cash flow or their statistics. Good luck with your campaign

Get in touch with the Chief Executive at your Health Care Trust and see what they have to say,if no joy go to your local paper. With NHS issues getting front page news at the moment because of the pending elections,it is worth a try.lol Jane-cornwall

This is a national disgrace. We have a Government that goes out of its way to stamp out all kinds of discrimination (or so they say!), and yet people who need treatment are to be denied it because they live in England and Wales. That is blatant discrimination of the most despicable kind. Instead of paying youngsters to stay at school and 'playing soldiers' abroad, our taxes should be used for the benefit of our own citizens. Alzheimer's disease destroyed my Mother, and I'm terrified of developing it myself. I'll certainly be complaining to my MP about this subject - and voting against Blair's bunch at the next election! I am really really grateful for all your support and e mails. There are a few high profile people making their concerns felt which is all to the good. One Labour MP has both her mother and mother in law with this condition. As Fiona Phillips said in her article...'If she had cancer she'd be treated by the NHS, if she had problems sleeping it would be sorted and if she were a drug addict she would get rehabilitation. £2.50 isn't much to change someone's life for a day, is it?' I am not just concerned with my own situation but for the many thousands of others who may not have any one to speak up for them. Linda x

hi linda As a fellow member i to have dealings with dementia in the family, my mother-in-law has dementia bless her today she is 84yrs young, 3yrs ago she took a turn for the worse a meeting was called between her Care Manager plus the day care center workers her cpn nurse and her consultant at kings hospital in bournemouth my husband also attended as well it was decided that she needed 24hr care so my husband became her carer for a year and a half, she then became very poorly and only thru force we managed to get her into hospital where she needed medical treatment bless her, it was then decided that she needed more care than my husband could give even with a care package in place to help him what i think is disgusting is that patients have to pay for their care in a rest home for an illness which they have no control over i feel that Alzhimers and Dementia should be treated free of charge with care and medication i hope this makes sense lorraine
