He shot his mail box and the bullet ricochetted and killed him. (Yes, I know - a rubbish answer). Lorrainex

No Elf not a rubbish answer, but not the correct one. Forget about how he died and concentrate on what the dead man was and the mailbox. The answer lies there. Aileen

Hi Dorothy Oh have you got one going? I haven't really been looking through the threads. Was having a rummage in the garage and came across these and loads of quiz questions in a box. I'm still decorating. Thought I'd come on here for a while instead of watching the paint dry! Anyway, wrong answer. Think about his profession and what would make him kill himself. Aileen

Hi Buttercup He has shot himself. Suicide. The police are treating it as murder because of something they discover about the mailbox. Did someone do something on purpose which drove him to kill himself? Aileen

No Buttercup, you naughty little flower. I'll give you a clue. What is the one thing you would notice about most basketball players? Mailboxes in the US are usually outside. What are they attached to? So why would the basketball player kill himself and what did the police notice about the mailbox? Aileen

Very good Arthur but not the correct answer. Think up and down, or down and up. Then tell me a story. Aileen

Yes Arthur you're on the right track. So if someone was jealous of him, bearing in mind he is tall.... what would they do to the mailbox which would make the basket ball player resort to killing himself. Shrink and stretch maybe? Aileen

You've almost got it Arthur. So he's a basketball player who is tall and if he begins to notice that the mailbox is out of his reach, what does he begin to think is happening to him and what are the consequences? Aileen

Knew you'd get there eventually Arthur. What happened was that every night a rival basketball player added half an inch to the post of the mailbox. After a week the player became convinced that he was shrinking. Thinking he might lose his livelihood he committed suicide. The police suspected murder because someone had driven him to it intentionally. That was a bit of a tricky one. Took me about 2 hrs to get that one. Aileen

Being so kind and generous I'll give you an easy one this time. An airplane carrying sixty Mexican lawyers to a convention in Rio, crashed and landed directly on the border between Columbia, Venezuela and Brazil. Under international law, where should the survivors be buried? Aileen

Yes Emma, you don't bury survivors. In 1987 a crane collapsed in a residential area of Liverpool at lunchtime. Nobody saw or heard anything. Why not? Aileen
