Like some of the others I'm surprised you managed to stay calm. My mother had a thing about my weight, good job she can't see me now. My excuse was it saved on the heating bill and seeing as my sister is like a matchstick with the wood shaved off and she feels the cold more than I do, I'm stickng to it. If you decide to diet, then the best of luck. Ros :-))

Thing is about losing excess weight, the younger you are when you do it, the easier it is. Having been something of a beanpole for many years, my weight crept upwards slowly during my thirties and forties, but lots of exercise and a very busy life kept it reasonable - just one dress size up, but hitting 50 was the killer. Now I can starve for days and just lose a couple of pounds and overdoing the exercise routines just leaves me exhausted, so I just try to eat healthily, walk past beautiful clothes in shop windows and ignore mirrors whenever possible. Still makes me miserable though! CB >|<

I remember about 5 years ago, my mum asking whether I'd put on any more weight - I should point out that I was overweight then and had been for quite some time - as she thought that I looked much rounder in the face. Annoyed, I got on the defensive, when with hindsight I was undoubtedly in denial. 18 months in Germany, eating rubbish and drinking Weissen beer did nothing for the waistline and when I came back to England, I acknowledged that something had to be done. I've since lost the weight and much happier about my size, kept it at the same weight now for 9 months. However, it wasn't until I saw before and after photos of myself that my jaw dropped, I wasn't half burly with a face more like a bowling ball, lol. But you never notice at the time when you've got nothing to compare yourself against...or at least I hadn't as I'd been overweight for as long as I could remember. But it's funny how things to which we are sensitive, such as weight, get buried somewhere in your subconscious and it isn't until someone mentions it that it comes shooting straight up to the surface.

Wendy I admire your ability to keep quiet. Think I would have told the lady she had a big, ugly mouth!! You are welcome to join us on the weight loss thread. I've nudged it up - we all seem to check in on Mondays and Tuesdays. I've lost 17lb since Christmas but would like to lose another 35lb by next Christmas. Take care. Debs

Bendy - thank you.... how about spending the first £5's worth on the Guess Sean's time game - cos then you could get £35 at the end and this weightloss lark won't cost you a penny.... Devious aren't I!! :O)

Oh Wendy how awful its like I was at a concert once and I saw a girl who had been a client of mine in my hairdressing days and I said hello Marg how are you gee I can't help noticing how great you look you've lost a lot of weight (which she had ) and quite loudly in the foyer at intermission she said 'Yes well if Ive lost it you certainly found it' I could have cried I had a two week old baby at the time who had weighed 10lb 4oz and I was desperatly trying to lose weight but I could have shrivelled up and died there and then , still trying to lose that weight by the way and Josh is now 28 so not much success but there is no excuse for rudeness although some oldies seem to think that there is, so just forgive her and be your self fat or thin it doesn't make you who you are Lara xx

I remember a few years ago, Sharon and I bumped into an old school friend who I hadn't seen for a few years. She left us to chat and he said... 'what happened to the girl you used to go out with ?' 'thats her' 'no, the skinny one' 'THATS HER, she's put some weight on' 'are you sure, didn't she used to be blonde ?' 'SHE DYED HER HAIR TOO!!!!' lol

Dear Big Fat Lump, I have absolutely NO sympathy for you! I put up with a mother who had the same sort of 'acid tongue' for 50 years, and 'Big Fat Lump' would have been praise indeed, considering some of the things she called me!
