ive been reading with intrest the replys on this thread.i admire kerry and every other person being man or woman that has the guts to stand and fight for their country.my father in law did full service and my god son is about to go to iraq.i dont think it should matter how long someone serves be it 6 monthes or 6 years the point is they had the guts to do it in the 1st place and for that we should all applaude them. as for women getting pregnant after only 6 monthes well i wonder if the same comments would be made if men could get pregnant, and lets not forget it takes both a man and a woman to make a baby so why is it the woman getting crittised for having to take time out to have the baby, men are to blame to they could use contraception.im not sexisist in any way it just seems all one sided against women. kerry i and alot of people on here thank and admire you for what youve done for your country. luv debs.x |

Thank you Lisa, I work because mainly I could not sit at home all day and claim benefits! Not that there is anything wrong with that, I understand some people have to do it and I don`t begrudge them that. Like you said it`s the people that can get jobs but don`t that annoy me, but each situation is different! When I leave I will be getting another job and carry on supporting our son, by then we`ll be married and we`ll get alot less help from the government which is fine as we knew that`d happen. It`s hard working (I go back monday) and trying to raise a family, but it needs to be done and were doing it the best we can!! Wish a few people wouldn`t be so quick to jump on our backs! |

Sorry Karen I went to bed, I wasn`t implying that you were sexist lol, that Mike was. Mike we don`t consult each other on MSN, I have my own opinions and I voice them often enough which does get me into trouble. No-body said you can`t have an opinon you just seem to think that Women don`t have the commitment to join forces and stick at it, you think they stay in for 6months and then get pregnant. I have been in FOUR YEARS!!!!I have done my bit for the country and now I want to raise my son and if that means I get benefits which you and everyone else pays for in a round-a-bout way(taxes) then so be it! Would you rather I didn`t look after him properly, that he looked scuffy and unkept!! Or I suppose you think it`d be better if I went away on a 4-6month detatchment!!!! What kind of mother would I be then??? Things may have been different when you were younger, but this is the 21st century!! |

Little Karen, ? Defeat? You have a warped view of a discussion? Updated: Me too- just seen the last reply and all I can say is if you can't discuss things sensibly and without personalising things don't bother. I thought this board was to express opinions? We might not like them but we will die to uphold freedom of speech?? etc etc |

while you consult each other on msn I have to bid you farewell and good night lol Kerry, Don't take it all so personally- I've been in the RAF- seen how women are treated when it comes to promotions etc..just have no time for 'career' people who are pregnant 6 months later? Good career?? All the best to you though - maybe you'll stop emailing me now??? Little Karen??21.49!!!! Better things to do than look back lol- if thats what you say then so be it! Is that what you do all night? LOL |

Little Karen, Not at all, and you can prove me wrong??? |

|
Unknown | Report | 7 Apr 2005 01:38 |
It is wrong of you to assume that women join the forces without the commitment that you think men have. 'Do 6 month, then get pregnant' i think not. Or are you going to contradict yourself and say.... 'Thats not what i meant??' Karen |

Ultimately... you're doing the most important job in the world Kerry... you're rearing the future generation... the future adults who will fight for us in the future wars, the doctors who will aid us in our old age, the inventors who will advance us further technologically...REGARDLESS of what job you're in you deserve 100% support! Exactly Kerry! Thats what I've been trying to say all along- they take you in and know damn well at some point you'll struggle? My argument has been (sorry) that women who want a career in the Forces do so out of a passion and they are damned good! BUT not those who join and then 6 months later start shouting discrimination etc etc because they're expecting? I know I've put this wrong- just trying to make a comparison and Kerry it's NOT personal at all- far from it I sympathise with you and wish you well- family above all? Little Karen and Victoria- you're missing my point- it doesn't matter how old you are in Fire etc just in Armed Forces? |
