Lou, Its taken from the 'Harlem Shuffle' by Bob and Earl issued on B & C records through Island, I think it's 1968. They used the original from that song :-) It's a soul classic. Pat x |

Paul I think you are right about 'Unchained Melody' it was a 1950's song, didn't Jimmy Young have a hit in the 1950's with it? The Righteous Brothers was about 1965-1966? Gary I know that saying and I agree totally with it 'there is no new music, just music you have not heard before' I love music, but I hate the fact that there is so little 'Originality' as there used to be in past decades, well before the 1980's anyway. you now what gets me is people like Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Neil Young, have sung songs over 30 years covering all gambits of human emotion and then you get tossers today like Chris Martin from Coldplay held up like a demigod after 2 or 3 albums singing songs that all sound the same and have earned more money in a month than some artists earned in 40 years, music today, heard it |

Gary LMHO what can I say, I totally agree with you. Funny how there seemed to be so many talented people around pre 1980's, yet there doesn't seem to be any newer crowd to take over where Dylan, Young, Reed, Newman, Simon, Morrison, Wonder, Robinson, Gaye etc., left off. I thought it was my age that was affecting my judgement. Pat x |

Pat, the young ones at work are just starting to get the new Dr John and Randy Newman song on radio 2 'under the Apple Tree' that tips metaphors at sexual incounters as every blues/reggee song as for years, old music, but hope it pricks new ears |

Bella Christine said it was the Communards what a terrible version it was too LOL. Thelma Huston had a version of that song on Tamla Motown at the time of Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes hit. Oh before I forget Housemartins 'Caravan Of Love' originally the Isley Brothers Lulu's 'Shout' originally The Isley Brothers Breakfast In Bed Dusty Springfield (From Dusty In Memphis LP) Shirley Bassey and Lorna Bennett did versions of that one. How about all the Bacharach songs sung in the U.S. by Dionne Warwick and covered in the UK by Sandie Shaw and Cilla Black Anyone who had a heart, Alfie, Always something there to remind me and others. Oh I am very impressed Christine the wonderful late Dennis Brown, although I am not a fan of that song hubby likes it :-) Pat x |

I have to defend Chris Martin here, he might very well be a tosser (don't know him personally, can't say), but he writes very good songs... other covers... prefer Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah to the original by Leonard Cohen. I like his version of strange fruit too, although the original version of obviously fantastic (Billie Holiday) off to bed now.. night all Paul (ps... don't really like Dylan... horribly whiney voice) |
