Saw them live in the Sixties - in the days before bouncers and barriers sitting (but probably standing and yelling!lol) about 8 feet away from the stage. They were fantastic! What we oldies remember is that they broke the stranglehold American artists had on the charts. They were new, exciting and NOW!....Okay - to listen to some of their early stuff and the music may seem amateur - but to us they epitomised the era! The Lennon/McCartney writing partnership went from strength to strength and they created classics - anyone who thinks not doesn't know music at all. Magsxx

Answer my question Eddie. Have you done anything origional? (I gather you have a group) If I'm wrong, clarify why you don't like them!

The Beatles as far as I am concerned are in a class of their own. They did more for the British (and international) music scene than any other band has ever done. Much better than the rap crap that they call music nowadays. Deb

Deb, There's room for all types of music. Some rap/r&b is Ok. Some of Eminems songs are very clever lyrically for instance. Agree that most of it is formulaic rubish though paul

Mags, I know thats what you meant, I was trying to say that some younger people appriate them too. Pat... I think Blur owe a lot more to the Kinks than the beatles actually... I'm a fan of Blur, think they've written some great songs... I'll post one to the songs thread in a minute.. ;)

Unknown Report 23 Apr 2005 01:12
