My son saw me reading 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence' last night. This morning he has sent me a text message to say he's ordered the DVD for me. He knows I like David Bowie. Can't wait to get it. Dee |

Bugsbunny, That seems very dear - did you try the library or Amazon? I hope people don't fork out too much money on this book club? If there's anyone who would like to read the books I'll be more than happy to forward any I have to them. |

Hi Brenda Haven't sold on Amazon but they seem to have quite a good system. I have bought a lot of second hand books from them, especially ones for the courses I have been on. Dee x |

Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence has David Bowie on the front and I think was a reprint of 'The Seed and The Sower' released when the film came out. I guess there are less of that title around and that is why they can ask a higher price for them. Dee |

Hi folks Have finished Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, just couldn't put it down. Am now well into The Ragged Trouserd Philanthropist that Dave recommended. As the ancestors of the couple who raised my Dad were mainly in the building trade it will be interesting to get a feel for the kind of lives they led. Dee x |

Hiya GReadies, Dee, You are the No1 bookworm! lol Why you never started a Book Club I'll never know. I've finally finished my other book - didn't enjoy that much, but one of these you read to find out the ending! So tonight I'll start Mr Lawrence!! I've read Ragged Trousered (twice) -- its good. You know what'll happen we'll end up talking about all sorts of books here - great! I REALLY want to read a bit more of the classics, but school made them so boring I haven't looked at them since, but maybe with an adults eye I might see them differently? Or do others feel the same? Got put off at school by Shakespeare and all that jazz? |

Got my Seed and Sower from the work today and ordered the Russian one (can't remember how to spell it!!!). Over the weekend my friend and I both read The Bad Mother's Handbook - excellent book, would thoroughly recommend it - not sure blokes would like/understand it so much though! Have started the Jane Austen Book Club, then it will be Mr Lawrence. Mike, I keep meaning to read more classics too, but keep getting sidetracked. Today for instance I have brought home Mr Lawrence, plus the Time Travellers Wife, the Bookseller of Kabul and another one that I couldn't put back on the shelf. Thats the problem with working in a library - temptation is always there lol !! Maz. XX |

From the Love Affairs Of A Bibliomaniac.... I have always contended that one who is in love (and having once been in love is to be always in love) has, actually, no confession to make. Love is so guileless, so proper, so pure a passion as to involve none of those things which require or which admit of confession. He, therefore, who surmises that in this exposition of my affaires du coeur there is to be any betrayal of confidences, or any discussion, suggestion, or hint likely either to shame love or its votaries or to bring a blush to the cheek of the fastidious---he is grievously in error. LOL |
