Hi folks Just a reminder to everyone that we will be reviewing 'A Day in the Life' and 'A Child called It' on the 23rd June, that is this Thursday. Perhaps you would also like to start thinking of books for the next selection, which I guess Mike will want to make during the week 23/30th June. Ann I am glad you were able to get one of the books for next month. Dee xx

Keep expecting to hear a huge cheer from that direction!!! I shall post my review on Thursday, all being well, be interested to see what others thought of 'A Day in the Life' If you are looking in Mike don't forget I have already added my choices for next month to this thread. Hi folks Just a thought ( and I am sitting here ready to be shot down in flames!!), does anyone like Agatha Christie books? I, for some unknown reason, subscribed to the Agatha Christie Collection and now have all 85 books, plus the monthly magazines that went with them. I suppose I have read about a third of them. The magazines that came with them were good as they gave some interesting facts about things that were happening in the period in which Agatha was writing. Does anyone else share my strange taste in literature? Dee xx

Mike, I get most of my books from Charity Shops. Oxfam is famous for its excellent selection!! Will look out for July's selection. I recently read 'THE LOVELY BONES' by Alice Sebold. A fascinating book which is narrated by the spirit of a murdered teenage girl, watching down from heaven over her killer and her friend's and family's grief. Couldn't put it down till finished. Nearly finished reading 'SONGBIRD' by Sebastian Faulks, which is extremely well written and both erotic and deeply moving. I was in tears reading the accounts of the suffering of the men in the First World War, which was so magnificently detailed, you feel you are there with them. Also the granddaughters search for history concerning her grandfather made me think of our own search for our ancestors. Another great read. Dee, Hubby reads all the Agatha Christie books and also Ruth Rendall. Kathy

Jacqui Waiting for that cheer, hope they don't go astray. A week since i posted mine now I think. How long does post usually take? I had a message from our leader. Mike requests a separate thread for the review of this months books. I will be adding his comments for him. Ann glos

Hi folks I am glad I am not the only one who reads Agatha Christie, a few friends think I'm odd (ok. they are probably right!!!!) Ann The suitcases came out of the loft today. We are self catering so I have put the dog food, my books to read, and most importantly a couple of boxes of wine, next to the cases, so we don't go without them!!!! Will have to find the walking boots tomorrow. Dee xx

Dee - have a great holiday! Still got your DVD and ashamed to say i haven't watched it yet! Don't worry, I will look after it and WILL return it - hopefully before the September meet lol!!! Maz. XX ps missing you Mike!!!!!

Dee, does the fact that you have to find your boots mean they haven't been worn for a while? I foresee sore legs next week then. Oh yes, like your style, pack the wine before the boots, i see you are serious about this!!! do you want me to put the review thread up on Thursday, or will you do it? Ann glos Ann Glos

Hi folks Just started reading Northern Lights, by Philip Pullman, seem to remember someone recommending it on one of the threads. Looks as though it will be good. Ann I'd quite like to post the thread for the review on Thursday if that is OK with you. Have 'a cunning plan' as Baldrick would have said in Black Adder!!!!! I will also post a thread for selection of next months books I must admit my boots don't often see the light of day, but when they do they are incredibly comfy, well worn (bit like me really!!!) Maz I trust you to return the DVD when you have seen it, even if it is at the next Maidstone meet (lol) Hope the meet in London goes well. You will have to get your thinking cap on and come up with some suggestions for the books for August. I have put a few of my suggestions on this thread as I wasn't sure if I would be around for the next selection. We are considering one classic and one non classic this time, just to make a change. (It's OK we have run it by the 'boss' and he agrees!!!) Take care everyone, I'm off to lay on a sunlounger and read my book, be back later, beetroot coloured no doubt Dee xx

Unknown Report 22 Jun 2005 20:05

Well folks, I'm not beetroot coloured, but I am half way through the book I started. Certainly a 'lighter read' but it has caught my imagination and I am having trouble putting it down Don't forget, tomorrow is review night Dee xx
