...according to the mother of three girls who became pregnant at 12, 14 and 17. Apparently it's the education department who should be giving better guidelines to the schools, who should in turn being teaching the girls about sex and contraception. Not the parents responsibility at all then:) Whoever is to blame, ain't it all just really sad?

Maybe the fathers should have tied a knot in it. I think the real potential losers in all this are the babies. Have you SEEN the names they've been saddled with??

Unknown Report 23 May 2005 18:53

lol - yes! not only are the poor girls facing a bleak future but show a shocking lack of taste. Only one of the father's pays maintenance but apparently the girls don't want or need the dads to be involved....that'll be us paying then:)

Looks like I'll have to do an extra hour or two this week to pay my contribution towards their upkeep.........

short and sweet...the mother...the buck stops with her! bryan.

Hi Roxanne It's just tragic and obscene that a 12 year old is having sex isn't it? I can't help feeling sorry for her.

Unknown Report 23 May 2005 19:03

And the father Bryan? Isn't he as guilty by his absence?

I`ve just written this and it`s disappeared so hope it doesn`t appear twice. My daughter had a concealed teenage pregnancy aged 16 and 3 months. I wouldn`t have thought of blaming Govt . I felt I did everything right-worked part time and told her the facts of life. Anyway , now he`s 9 and a clever wee boy brought up well by his Mum and suurogate Dad until recently -he`s gone too . It`s all in the past now although I had to attend a Councellor at the time -I was so distressed. Ros

I suppose the government is to blame to a certain degree, the mother would have done all she could to have stopped the other two daughters getting pregnant if it was up to her to look after them and pay for all the babies needs. Anne

well - they are all living rent free and their benefits are in excess of £30 K per annum! the one who had the baby at 16 - the childs father was 38!!!!! sad reflection on society

I agree with Roxanne, sex is everywhere. Speaking as a mum of an 8 year old who is having a hard time from 10 year olds at school who are calling her a lesbian because she and her best friends hold hands!

Anne

Anne Report 23 May 2005 19:17

Sorry Peter, l forgot to say that if the government did'nt pay out hundreds in benefits and give them all nice flats but left it to the parents to look after their own, l'm sure there would be a lot less young girls keen to start families. Anne

Trouble is - if they stop the handouts what happens to the babies - how do they survive?

Ginny

Ginny Report 23 May 2005 19:19

That's what we have told her and that it's the other kids' problem not hers!

The recent behaviour of two thirds of this lot is against the law. I thought when you broke the law you were punished? Must have blinked when they changed that rule. As with all crime there needs to be an adequate deterrent. This is no different to robbery, vandalism or assault. It is a crime. We have recently been discussing yob culture. Is this not just another offshoot from it? Will these small babies grow up to become yet another generation of mindless vandals? There is a definite possibility. As I have stated before, I believe the key to tackling yob culture is at the home. If the Government wishes to address this issue as a whole, then these overlooked offences must be recognised, addressed and ultimately, stamped out.

I know what you mean Wendy, but thats when we bring back the workhouses!! Anne

Possibly one of the problems is that many of the teenagers of today have parents who they themselves are only in their twenties.

Ginny

Sadly Roxanne people such as your friend appear to be in the minority in today's climate.

Maybe our American cousins could clarify this but some time ago I was told that in USA - the state will pay benefit for the first child only - after that you are on your own. Perhaps if we had this system it may reduce the teenage pregnancies which apparently are the highest in Europe. Trouble is that there are genuine single mums trying hard to bring up kids - but then there are other mums who appear to make a career out of it - different children by different fathers. I know of one aged 22 - four kids all different fathers - left school pregnant and that's been it - never worked and doesn't intend to - says she likes kids - but the kids run the streets apparently. I think prosecutions are in order here no matter what the young parents say............the girls themselves were under age so they too should have been prosecuted..........and the mother for apparently not caring less about HER childrens moral welfare. They are nothing but a drain on the state. 150 years ago deportation might have been the result, of their fickle ways. If only I could get 30 grand for sitting on my fortune....
