Gerry Report 2 Jun 2005 23:55

I rarely come on here now, but i see things never change. This is not surprising as this site is made up of hundreds of people and believe it or not we are all different and soemof us behave in strange ways. This has nothing to do with the net or GR.......... It happens in life, so lets not get too paranoid and carried away. MSN is perfectly safe to use, but you need to treat new people with caution as you would do if you met them for the first time out in the real world. I have made some excelent friends on here and i frequently see theses 'scare' threads which are no doubt genuine and well meaning. All I would suggest to a large number of you who have said you are now worried etc etc.... dont be any more worried than you would be meeting new people in your street and keep a sence of proportion........ the majority of people are basicly nice and well balanced. Keep well and be Happy Gerry

Someone has copied and pasted from MSM. Wow!!Thats a clue. They must be a comp expert. I have just joined it and keep hitting the wrong buttons though thanks to Royal, have learn't how to put a background on. Have been having great fun on it chatting to people from the Chester meet and a couple of others who I have met on the board. As some people have said, lets enjoy the good people and ignore the others. All this attention is feeding their egos.

I'm really quite upset at all this - I didn't realise this sort of thing was going on. I know there are groups of people within all the different boards, who it may seem as though they are a 'clique'... but in most cases, I have found that anyone can join in any conversation and made to feel most welcome by everyone. After reading through this thread, it's really upsetting that people can be so hypocritical - nice to your face, and horrid behind your back... I'm not so naive that I don't think it goes on... but am obviously naive enough to think that it happened here with such obvious vehemence. I won't ask who the culprits are - unfair of people to name and shame (that should be down to the faceless mangagment of GR themselves, if you ask me). My household has two sign-in names here... one is mine and one is my daughters... but I don't use hers and she doesn't use mine. It seems that people who use two sign-in names and are the same person, just to do so maliciously, have more money than sense. I had a bad experience at GR a little while ago - but it went away soon enough... but I might add that GR themselves seem to do little to help people here. We pay our money, and GR rakes it in with little effort it appears. Has the problem been reported to GR... and if so, does anyone know what they are going to do about it? SHOULD they do anything about it? Personally, I think that if the boards were moderated and less casual, then perhaps it might be better? But... on the other hand, I do like the informality of a lot of the threads here. I'm all-a-tizz about this now! :( I shall go and read other threads here... though I would much rather read Debs quizzes, or how Kaye is dealing with her moles, or what everyone's favourite song/actor/singer/etc is... than have to read how upset people are on here. Here's hoping things get back to normal... NRH Who is 36, female, and is obviously called something different IRL ;)

A sugestion........... How about someone who does know the identity of the bullies, joins GR under another name. They could then name and shame and if suspended, it wouldn't matter because they would still be here under the name known to all. Just an idea. Jacky :-)

If you send a message to me, it will be to me with my married name - the reason being that someone posted my maiden name on here, without my permission. Joy

Hi Mandy, It seems to me that while GR are quick off the mark to suspend people (the easy way out), they don't seem to be prepared to be pro-active in trying to solve this problem. ann Glos

Hi Pat! I do agree with you - I think everyone should have to use their real names. I would be more than happy to use my married name (which I've had for 21 years!), I would just rather protect my adoptive parents by not revealing my maiden name in such a public place. This whole thing is so incredibly worrying and I hope that GR are able to instigate tighter security measures. Mandy :)

Hi Maz, so sad when I logged on today to see so much unhappiness on this board. As one who uses the GR boards to communicate with like minded people I was sorry that some people are making life miserable for others. As a more mature lady who has been around the block a few times I do try to steer away from any potentially volatile situations. Love and Peace to all Marianne.xxxx (Who really is a nice old lady).

Hi Wendy I find this really quite scary but what an eye-opener! The people on my messenger contacts list are people who I've either met in person, seen on webcam, or seen photographs of on the photos page. I never respond to anyone who asks for people to be added to their contacts list - my apologies to those genuine people who want to make new friends, but I prefer to make friends first and then add them to my contacts list. I'm definitely Mandy, I live in Somerset, and I'm 41. I have genuine pictures on the photos page. I don't use my surname due to a delicate situation with adoptive and birth families, not because I want to deceive anyone. I do have two logins on GR but for a perfectly legitimate reason; I am doing both my birth and adoptive trees and they need to be kept separate. This login has been used only TWICE for posting - for two people who had something to offer to threads but needed to remain anonymous, one regarding adultery, and the other regarding domestic violence. I have the utmost respect and admiration for you (and for Maz) for posting this thread and being so honest. Life's too short to be nasty, hold grudges etc and I really don't know why there is a nucleus of GR members going to such trouble to cause anguish to fellow human beings! Mandy :) x

I've always been a very catious person and am always careful who i speak to on MSN and to what threads i reply to. I,ve recently added quite a few names to my contacts lists of people who wanted someone to chat to. Now i'm very reluctant to get in touch with them in case there the ones in the 'clique' so to speak. I would hate to think i was getting drawn into something unknowingly. Having said that MSN is a good thing really, i have made a very good friend through this site and chat to her quite regularly. I also hardly ever add to threads of any kind, too scared of upsetting someone. Although i did feel strongly about something a couple of weeks ago so did have my say. I can't put my feelings over quite as well as some of you can so don't bother most of the time lol. I too would love to know who's in the clique if anyone wants to email me privately.Think i must be a bit niaeve as i havn't a clue who causes trouble or who does what i just read the threads and then move on. I know its up to me who i chat to but its better to be forwarned i think. A very weary and cautious Deb X

Dave It was fun! I don't normally join in because I am usually too late and the fun has ended and I don't post unless I have something relevant to say. I do really enjoy your threads though, particularly the NAKED one last night, that was really brilliant! I read a lot of the threads but don't participate much. Lyn
