Got used to wearing those pretty balconette bras when I was younger and had two poached eggs. After I had my son, my eggs increased to rather more than a small handful and eventually I mentioned to my doctor that I was getting a sort of achey pain under my arm, this was about 12 years ago. He had a look and said 'Well you need some shepherdess bras'. Me being a dumbo - but a polite dumbo - said 'I beg your pardon, what?' He said 'a bra where all is safely gathered in!' Embarrassing or what? I recently had a sudden nipping sensation under one boob, and found the wire had snapped and as I moved, the wires kept nipping together inside the material and pinching my flesh at the same time. That wire soon came out, I can tell you? Apparently not a good idea to wear underwired bras if you suffer from fibromyalgia as they can put too much pressure on the ribcage. Isn't it fun being a woman?

Reading this thread with interest. Shapely Figures is a good catalogue if you hate trying bras on in changing rooms as much as I do. They have a website too. Come in loads of sizes. Also have bras with supporting panels instead of wires if preferred. There is nothing I hate more than taking the maximum of four in to Marks and Spencers changing rooms, getting undressed, fumbling about trying them on in front of horrid backview and side view mirrors, none of them fit so get dressed again, muttering 'sorry not right' to waiting assistant and starting all over again .. find four more .. join queue. I am glad that its just not me who dislikes `underwired`. I dislike `balcony` as well. Another stupid name for a bra. If it does not dig into you then it all falls out!!!!!!!!! Lol. Love and Peace Marianne.x

Underwired bras should be handwashed, not bunged in the washing machine. Machine washing is guaranteed to loosen the underwiring. And if your underwiring digs into you...you need a bigger BACK size. Dee x

I can remember laughing when my mother used to say her 'bones' were digging into her! LOL She meant the bra and corset stiffeners, but I don't think they'd have been real whalebone in the 1950s. CB >|<

I'd NEVER wear a bra WITHOUT underwire!

one of the women at work was getting funny looks and couldnt figure out why,until she looked down and saw her underwire sticking through her tshirt..they either stab u under you arm or stab your chin!

Can I join this campaign to get rid of underwire? I've had 2 come out in the last week and have just spent my lunch hour looking for a new bra. They don't go up to my size - GRR. Tried the site but don't know measurements - anyone got a tape measure - LOL!! Lynne
