Val, i hope one of these days i will take a trip to meet her. She is a wonderful person , she just made a young girl so happy at my centre. She is so thoughtful, she never fails to amaze me with her kindness.

Thank you fo keeping this nudged Linda,
I don't think people have any idea of who the homeless actually are, we are talking kids who have left home because of dreadful circumstances and feel safer on the streets than in their own homes. the list goes on. Drink and drugs are not always the case.
Now off to work.

Unbelievably the YMCA in R****** has only 7 young people living there. Only a quarter full but cannot get the funding to open the other flats.

Why when there are so many needy people do places like this remain empty?

I am proud to nudge this worth while thread up. It's been -4 here in Wales.
Grannie, maybe your local Councillor could give you some advice on where the less fortunate children could enjoy using the toys that you have got there. Just a thought I had that they could help you.
Keep warm.

Shirley Ann Report 16 Nov 2007 21:35

Julie, womans refuge or a homeless centre that homes families would be so grateful for toys, the centre i run is for all ages and whole families and we are always running short of toys for the children. you won't be able to get address of womens refuge as the won't give it out because of the security needed to protect their residents, but you could try your social services and ask them if they would pass them on for you, they may help.

There is a homeless shelter in Cambridge and the local supermarkets put wheelie bins outside their stores asking for donations of toiletries and food. Its an easy way to donate and contribute. I think its a great idea.

Jacki, that is a great idea and as you say a great way to halp those in need.
Christmas is a sad and sometimes very hard for those in centres, with the help of Masie in wales i make sure the residents at my centre have presents at christmas.
They are so grateful for so little, it never fails to bring tears to my eyes.

I want to thank you all who have taken the trouble to nudge this thread and Maisies as it is important we don't forget the people who have not got the luxury of a decent place to live or a family that care for them, for what ever reason they are homeless they do derserve some compassion and help. they are human beings after all.
