Sad to say there have been many cases of mindless yobs attacking various monuments etc for Veterans. Knitted poppy displays and silhouettes being broken up.

Not sure why they'd do this but you have to wonder how much they really know about it all....not saying schools haven't taught them but maybe they didn't feel engaged. If caught, maybe they need community service working for the veterans. Or maybe they're just mindless idiots and they really don't care how many died for their right to act stupid.

i watched the service from the Royal Albert Hall last night as i always have but had to listen to some idiots letting off their bomb size fireworks. So much for respect.
i also watched the cenotaph serivce today, young and old together.
I lost relatives in WW1 but i was thinking of my uncle and his son who both died in WW2.
I dont think i will be around in 2045 but i hope their memory lives on

The "Shot at Dawn" were represented and mentioned at the Cenotaph today.

Of the 349 shot at dawn 306 were pardoned in 2007 and the other 37 were sentenced for murder so not included.

They are also remembered at the National Memorial Arboretum

As they should be.

My father, Flying Officer J.W. Lynes, aged 28 killed Dec 1942, just before I was born. My third cousin, Captain Michael Trelease aged 26 died of wounds March 1945, My second cousin Rifleman Ernest Lynes aged 20,, killed 1914, my OH's grandfather Major Stuart Lyon aged 36 killed March 1918. My grandfather and great uncle fought in France 1915_18 in the Light Infantry, both survived!

They are also remembered at the National Memorial Arboretum.


But they don't have a memorial stone of their own,,these men, its known where they were put in front of a firing squad and where they were buried!.

Where is their marker,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,nowhere.! or their record.


Almost everyman who died in WW1 have their name on individual stones in WG around the world.


Its annoying.
