thanks ken - I thought I had got it right .

The point is that no matter how false it sounds none of us have evidence to the contrary and therefore cannot dismiss it out of hand as a fabrication. I am not disagreeing with Paul, Sparkle or any of the others, I just prefer to give the benefit of doubt to everyone first. Ken xx

I'm very confused. you SEEM to have been disagreeing with me Ken ? Accusing me of abuse, is that not disagreeing with my opinion ? Paul 'xx' (by the way, did you all know I'm an astronaut ? Anyone got any evidence to the contrary ? no ? then it has to be true doesn't it)

I have no sympathy for Linda. Personally speaking here, To put up this thread and to leave it like she has, was going to attract different opinions. Maybe Linda should have pmd her sincere apology to everyone concerned, and also that she would add a thread for everyone when she returns from work/shopping/wherever. That way she would be here to justify her actions. Instead she posts a thread blaming her son and his mate, and also blaming very ANGRY members, who were in their own right to pm her after seeing the upset that HER son had caused by maliciously IMPERSONATING another member. Which is against the message board guidelines. Elaine x

Pat

Pat Report 9 Nov 2005 12:35

To start with I agree with Jacquie & BC. Why is it when something happens like this on the board people argue amongst themselves & accuse each other of all sorts? Sometimes people on this board have a lynch mob mentality makes for horrible reading. Some of the stuff here is very strong & I don’t think it’s called for. How can we assume all what Linda is saying is not true? Likewise we cannot assume it is true. Surely people have to give others the benefit of the doubt. As we have no proof either way it is unfair to assume what we want to, surely that is blind assumption? Why not show support for the people whose names were falsely used last night, support in a positive way, not a negative way, as I feel this thread has become Negative. I think arguing amongst each other & throwing allegations at people is the wrong way of doing things. Why not do something positive now instead. If all the people who are concerned about this, which I am one, write to Genes requesting that all members numbers appear with board names & these numbers cannot be changed no matter how often names be changed. Ask Genes for some security for members using this board. If enough people request this maybe Genes will respond. So at least if anyone tries to use members names their number cannot be changed & in this incidence we would have been able to tell the difference straight away. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and to express them but why not try to do so in a less negative way. Pat x

Debby Report 9 Nov 2005 12:37

How do you know she hasn't pm'd the people involved? How do you know she understands how this board works? I would hate to be the accused with you lot on the jury! I agree Linda hasn't put her point across very well but to call someone a liar when they've actually bothered to post a message is in my eyes rather judgemental. Debby

Debby and Pat, Very good points. I recall a couple of months ago, when an old thread suddenly appeared on the Board, apparently nudged by a nonsensical post in my name. Suddenly, there was a hue an cry and I was being interrogated and blamed for something nefarious which I hadn't done. It was very interesting, as well as very disappointing, to see who suddenly appeared to cast blame for wrongdoing and question my assertion that I'd not nudged the thread, and who they 'nominated' to question me about it and 'report back'. It was also interesting to see who contacted me privately, without prompting, to say they believed me. Those are the people I regard as true friends. Sadly, there weren't many of them. CB >|<

Joan of Arc(hives) Report 9 Nov 2005 13:05

Pat, you are the voice of reason on here, & everyone should listen to you. We should all unite in stamping this sort of abuse out, whether it is 'accidental' or malicious, & not turn on one another. Sometimes things posted read differently from one person to another, some read things into it that are'n't there. I for one am on the fence on this one, because her 'son' also appears to have posted previously on chat, under 'her' membership no, as Knight Owl & Cheshire Cat, so posing as Jan was not the irst time, just that they were actually caught at it!! So if this has been going on longer than last night..... previous to page 20 ?? Hmmm......... :0( Joan

Stephanie Report 9 Nov 2005 13:05

if she did give him access it was probably cos she trusted him. my mum has trusted me with lots of things and ive gone and bu***red things up. not in malice but everyone is different. Linda obviousley isnt around at the mo and it really is down to her and Jan to sort out. She has put a thread up (maybe her maybe not) explaing the situation, maybe she didnt word it right and didnt say sorry, but she has done ALOT more than others have done in the past. we never know, maybe she has already sent her apology in a PM, lets get off her back for a while. xx

I cannot comment really as i didnt see anything, but i do know Jan to be a lovely lady and that this will have upset her (not this thread, whatever was said and her name being used). I have no objection to us being able to change our names. after all, im Strump, but i sign off with my own name Donna. I do think however, changing names is a problem, ive said all along, our member number should be next to our screen name and that we as individuals should not be able to change it. Donna

Joy

Joy Report 9 Nov 2005 13:13

As I said on Jan's thread last night, maybe this may prompt GR to somehow put membership numbers - say, in a signature, at the end of a post. :-) Joy (with so many ''fun'' names)

Joan of Arc(hives)

Joan of Arc(hives) Report 9 Nov 2005 13:15

I quite agree Joy, a membership no should appear automatically in the corner of the posting. That way we can all act like sensible adults & take responsibilty for our actions! :0) Joan
