I'm Ok thanks Elizabeth.... Elaine so where did Ken accuse Paul.... I see no mention of Paul. This is now going to get out of hand... It has completely blown up out of all proportion! Jacquie xxxx

Hi Elizabeth, You are welcome! I couldn't think how to explain about dots on the thread but Matilda and Elaine have managed it very well. Gwynne

But Paul..again,what if the woman is telling the truth..umm? How would any of us feel if we were in her shoes ? I for one would not come back on if I thought everyone was gonna jump me. Are we all just commenting because we have nothing better to do ? seriously...are we?

Everybody are entitled to their own views on this matter, If Paul doesnt believe Linda, that is his entitlement to feel that way. But by posting this thread Linda has explained what happened and kids do high jinx and also some adults. Ultimately it is up to Jan but I hope that she can forgive in this instance because I believe it is a genuine mistake on Linda's part. Though it cant be condoned remember 'To Err Is Human to Forgive is Divine'.Everybody is entitled to a second chance! Davex

Zoe With all due respect, I get what youre saying, but if it was me in this mess, I would have checked this thread before I went to work this morning, There were NINE replies during the night. A simple reply even as to put, 'Im off to work will reply later' would clear up things a little, to let people know she is not around at present. Ive two young kids, and can find 5 mins to look in on the board, especially if there has been upset the evening before. Elaine x

She posted the thread last night and hasn't responded to any posts. Ken, you have posted things in the past which i have found very offensive, i think 'pot' and 'kettle' spring to mind here. There are two main conflicting opinions on this thread. Just because you don't agree with one of them doesn't warrent reporting people to GR. By all means report anyone who has offended you, and we will return the favour! x

I usually stay away from threads that are getting a bit out of control but I have to agree with Paul on this one. Before anyone asks I do not have any children. I did work at a College for three years so I am well aware of what teenagers are capable of when they are let loose on a computer. One lad had his computer access suspended because he claimed the 38 hits on a porn website were accidentally. Another had the check to send messages to the staff. Any member of staff that gave their password to another person would have received a warning that would have gone on their personal file and faced a possible suspension from work. I would not have started the thread with ' A keen amateur geneoligist' (note the spelling mistake) but would have gone straight for the apology and then the explanation. Having read the thread twice I am not convinced that the explanation is genuine especially as there is no apology and seems in a way to be hitting back at some members for daring to send e-mails. Only stating my opinion as others have already done. Just seen the posting from Elaine and yes it would have only taken five minutes for Linda to add a reply. Maureen

I think this problem is between Linda and Jan. Anything else is just conjecture and does not help the situation. My humble opinion for what it is worth, and trying to deflect what could be a potentially 'heated' debate. BC XX

Jacquie Ken said to paul that if pauls posts were directed to him he would contact abuse. Paul has NOT been abusive to anyone on here, so why contact abuse or at least threaten to ?

Elizabeth, I have to agree with you on this point. Maureen

I cannot see a confliction in what I have said to any other regarding the topic of this thread. I just didn't see the sense in repeating what had already been said, but for the record here goes.... If Linda is to be believed, she has behaved naively allowing her son access to her password(s), and, she owes an apology to the parties hurt by this action (if not already given). Yes, her son should also apologise to those involved. I still insist that it is abusive to dismiss her thread as a lie. Ken xx

Linda C. Linda already admitted she gave her son her log in details. Then If she gave him the details, then she expected him to use the site including chat....and be able to post on there. 'I should have not let him and his friend have access to my login' Remember, he could use ALL of genes except post WITHOUT being logged in.

Ken, I've expressed an opinion. I'm not going to justify it to you as it is simply that - an opinion. If you want to report me, fine. Paul

BrianW

BrianW Report 9 Nov 2005 11:53

I would be inclined to give the benefit of the doubt, but would not expect a repeat: Linda should have changed her password and I would expect her to make sure from now on that only she has access to this site. Ffrom a personal point of view I would be more than happy to see the Chat board go. This started out as a serious genealogical site and there is enough scope on the General board for slightly less serious and more personal topics. There are plenty of alternative chatroom sites.

Just a thought (my friends not mine) is it possible that she is already suspended from the site for impersonating a member, it was reported... Maybe she can't add to this thread, only read it!??? x

Erikoinen Report 9 Nov 2005 11:56

I fail to see where I have said I am reporting you Paul, I gave my opinion that if you had called me a liar I would treat it as abuse and report it. Ken xx

Erikoinen

Erikoinen Report 9 Nov 2005 12:03

Linda C unfortunately it was not just her login the boys allegedly had. They would also have had access to her password in order to change her screen name. Ken xx

but as far as I believe - they changed the name they were posting under to the same as someone elses? or did I read that wrong?
