I find it hard to reply to people who use asexual names (for example Grey Skies) anyone else have similar problems??

Unknown Report 5 Mar 2006 20:06

as a man... I would still rather know whether someone was male or female, I'm not that keen on the asexual names either

Glad it's not just me Paul ;-))

No but I do sometimes - not always - find it harder to decide how to 'pitch' replies when I don't know the sex of the poster. And sometimes when I've had an exchange with someone whose sex I don't know and I've come to my own view I'm surprised when I find out what sex they are! Just goes to show you shouldn't jump to conclusions. Angela

Gwynne I agree with that ;-))

It's just a name. If the message was related to a gender issue then I'd imagine a clue would be given the post itself. Really, I do prefer to know, but I don't think it's is overly important.

Angela, I agree, it is a case of how to 'pitch' replies Personally I would hate to think I have said something inappropriate because I have not realised what sex the person is ;-))

I get confused too..... and prefer names that aren't asexual

I do! try writing some of my essays. that have to be based on your own experience whilst not saying who the people are. I want to call everyone IT, but don't coz it's rude. So Drs are He', nurses - she's, children are all male and all parents and family are female. Yes even fathers are female! and I have to state it at the begining. otherwise everyone has a sudoname. It is nice, I think, to see a name at the end of a posting, unless it is obvious in the ''user name'', but it doesn't bother me overly. Some ''names'' are quite interesting ie The Minstrel, Atlantic Blue, Alter Ego............ And I don't think a person's (presumed) gender would influence the words that I post. :-) Joy

I'm definately female - ask anyone who's met me! Dan, should we start calling you Daniella? or is that skirt really a kilt? LT

Daniel

Daniel Report 5 Mar 2006 20:22

Why would I be wearing a kilt? Geesh

Joy While they may be interesting, I personally prefer to know the sex of the person I am speaking to I have not referred to anyone in particular, as I am aware that some people may want anonymity, and that is fine by me, it is just I hope they will no be offended if I do not reply to them Dee ;-))

Jen You know me by now, how on earth do I know if I can flirt with someone who has a name that gives no idea if they are male or female ;-))

Joy

Joy Report 5 Mar 2006 20:26

Interesting point that, Dee.... so you want to flirt??! As someone else pointed out, people posting under a male name could be female and vice versa......... so you could be flirting with someone of the oposite sex or not, though it depends with which gender you would wish to flirt anyway! :-)
