Hi Frances No , I don't know anybody but don't mind walking in on my own. I assume there is a carpark at the pub? Have been to Norwich quite a number of times; my mum lives in East Runton near Cromer. She retired there although we are all from silly suffolk originally. Its only since I have been doing my family tree that I have been able to find my grandmothers family in Catfield. Her grandfather was licensee of the Crown from 1835 to 1860. Do you know it? I took all the family there one Sunday lunch, the meals were excellent. Look forward to seeing you all Kat :) ps I'll carry a placard with GR on it like they do at Airports!! pps do they do lunches??

There is a carpark at the rear of the Nelson, you just drive along Prince of Wales Road from the Station and take a left at the lights, and then left again into the carpark. Then there is a door into the Hotel from the Carpark. If this carpark is full, there is a multi storey carpark along Riverside road before you reach the Shopping area with Woolworth's Boots, Argos and Morrisons. In other words, coming from the city down Prince of Wales road, turn right at the lights by the Railway station and it's clearly marked on the right after the buildings which are the restaurants and nightclubs. The Hotel Nelson do have a restaurant and do bar meals as well, I am sure, will check with Alan who stayed there last year. LIz

Hi Kat and Alan, Have just seen your replies. I don`t know the Crown at Catfield Kat, but we do have friends who own a farm in that area - I`m sure they know it. Have you checked out the Norfolk Pub website? Alan, sorry I will miss you again - maybe 3rd time lucky. Liz, Thanks for keeping this thread going throughout the night - what a team! Frances

I'd be interested in attending the meet. But I would only be able to tell you if I could come about a week before. Sorry to be a pain in the butt!

Hi all, Nice to have some more replies. Leigh, I have no problem with children coming, what do others think? If we are meeting in the bar though is that a problem? Anyone know if the Nelson would have a problem with that? Frances

By the way, where is the Nelson Hotel? Anywhere near the RO?

Frances in Norwich Report 1 Apr 2006 22:10

Hi Paul, The Nelson Hotel is opposite the railway station. It is not too far from the records office. Will you be coming by car? If so, let me know and I will give you directions. Frances

Paul

Paul Report 1 Apr 2006 22:13

Yeah, by car, from King's Lynn. (A47) Don't worry about directions for now, I'm not 100% sure whether I can attend yet.

Frances in Norwich

Frances in Norwich Report 1 Apr 2006 22:17

OK Paul, let me know nearer the time, but just to let you know that the reords office is just off the A47 southern bypass and the Nelson is about 5mins drive from there. Frances

Penelope

Penelope Report 2 Apr 2006 20:59

Hopefully, I should be able to come. Will be coming from Dowham Market - can you let me know which is the best exit road of the A47 and I will have a look at the multimap. Cheers Pen x

Frances in Norwich

Frances in Norwich Report 2 Apr 2006 21:08

Hi Pen, You will need to leave the A47 at the Lowestoft/Beccles junction. Follow the signs for Norwich /Trowse and County Hall. The records office is at County Hall off the roundabout on Martineau Lane. If you need more detailed directions for the Hotel Nelson let me know. It will be nice to meet you, hope we can encourage some more 'local' people to come! Frances
