Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 22 May 2006 16:22

Hi Guys Feel so much better today after hitting myself all day yesterday for been such a dumb arse on Saturday, but it has taught me a big lesson!!!! Carole - posted on your other thread but just wanted to say again ' GLAD YOUR OK' Deb's - trust me don't even have one puff, the 3 I had made me ill and so guilty that I even walked into work today and told them all, I'm really glad it made me ill as I'm sure if it hadn't I would have been back to 25 a day in no time at all. Joanne, I have decided that now im into my 8th week I dont need the patches anymore, will try the dicoderm gum 2mg for a week or so, the patches I keep forgetting to put on anyway and now that the sun is out and the pools are opening the patches just look silly and I keep forgetting where I put the last 2!! I think im luckier in some ways than you, the reason being, hubby doesnt smoke, none of our friends do and if we go to the bar that too is non smoking, in the UK stacks of my friends smoked so it was hard to get away from it and we all socialised in the pub, out here you dont do that really so I do think its easier on the temptation.. and next summer when we come back I believe all pubs that serve food will also be non smoking! Still proud of you though.. Debs xx P.s I know I would never touch one as I hate the smell so much!

Hi to Carol, Debs,Melanie and Joanne Carol glad you are now over the Hospital visit and it turn out fine for you if a little sore Debs and Melaine you have come so far now, Debs now going off the patches Joanne I'am glad you did not start again. It is a little like the drug addict who has been weaned of off a drug and later goes back and tries to take the same amount of the drug he/she was used too, but the body can not take it and the reaction kills them, your body is now not sensitive to nicotine therefor the reaction you experienced, looking at your Glove Box you are ahead of the cost of patches versa the cigarettes, a small hic-cup, put it behind you and keep looking ahead. All the best James

Thought I would flag up some good points too! As an ex-quite heavy -smoker, I can tell you that you will notice: *a bigger improvement in your skin than any expensive cream can produce. *shinier hair *more energy (not right away - but over time). *it will be easier to buy clothes, make-up etc, because you will say 'Ten pounds!. Is that all? That was just what I used to spend on two packets of cigarettes that were gone in 48 hours'. *that you can sit anywhere, instead of being directed to the smoking area like a second class citizen. *that you don't stink! *THAT YOU ARE FREE! Hi All A study in the EU of 5,000 people 27% have macular degeneration a leading cause of blindness. New evidence suggests smoking and passive smoking is the reason for it James

Well I have joined the ranks of non smokers since yesterday. I have given up several times before, once for more than a year & still started again. I will suceed this time, at least I know some of the pit falls this time. Its great that you all support each other on here. Ang x

Hi Ang, Welcome to the thread, please use the thread as often as you can, you will get great help on here, We have all been/going through the difficult trials of giving up the ADICTION to the WEED and know the temptations, are you using the patch method? which most find the easiest to use. Look forward to seeing you on here again. James

Thank you for your welcome :-) I am going cold turkey after reading Allen Carrs book. Not quite as easy as the book says but the principle makes sense. I am surrounded by smokers all day but that has not bothered me . Its the after meal/evening smokes I miss the most. As I have been here before I do know a little of what to expect . I knew that some stress would come along & I'm afraid my hubby got the brunt of that but he was very understanding. Think I might pop to the shop & buy a CD as a reward for two days non smoking . Thanks for your support, I'm sure I will be back soon.! Ang x

Hi All, Welcome to the club Ang, its thanks to this thread offering the support that it has that I am now a non smoker, 8 weeks on Saturday at 10pm and 2 months a week on Thursday! I can smell a smoker hiding having a puff miles away, I must look like a lonney trying to find them when walking past also! The downside of not smoking I have to say is the weight, I try and walk between 2 and 5 miles a day but only started seriously since last week.. I wish there was something to boost metabolism! How you doing Joanne?????? Debs x

Welcome to Ang and Hi to everyone else. 8 wks 2 days (I think today). I started using the 14mg patches last week but like Debs started forgetting to put them on, so for the last 2 days haven't bothered. Its been fine. Haven't really thought about smoking, no moods either. OH stopped using the patches a few days ago too. Ang, join in on here, it does help. I really never thought I would give up. If I don't bother buying the patches anymore, I can start seeing the money we're saving. Keep it up everyone Caz

Helloooooooooooooo Guess what??? I have now gone three weeks without a cig!!! how good do I feel?? Today I should have changed my patch at 12pm and I forgot, it wasn't until 6pm that I remembered! Have to agree with Carole - my OH stinks awful, but he does say that he will give it a go and has planned the begining of July to begin his quit. My glove compartment looks impressive and it keeps my motivated when I see how many cigs I haven't smoked Brick wall's Glove Compartment Todays Date: 5/24/2006 My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 21 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 542 Amount Saved: £105 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 21 Mins: 51 Seconds: 10 My breathing is great, skin is rosy, sense of smell is amazing and even the whites of my eyes are whiter and brighter - and look at how much cash I have saved in three weeks! I'm reading the Allen Carr book as well as using the patches, it makes me laugh so much as what he says is so true and it really has you laughing at the things you used to say to justify having a cig - - - My friend stopped by just reading the book - that was three years ago, but he admitted today that yesterday he found himself searching for his cig's - why?? he just had a moment as he was leaving the house, he picked up his car keys and then went to pick up his cigs' - habit and that is after 3 years smoke free!!! He had to laugh at himself!! Joanne

Hi All, I have had quite a few difficult 'moments' today. I have had quite a bit of stress at work but know it is going to get worse in the next few weeks! I know I must not weaken because several times before I have fell into the 'one won't hurt' trap. I am off to the cinema tonight so will get diverted for a few hours! Yipee nearly made it to 3 whole days! Ang x

Hi gang I have had a bloody awful day today The cravings have been horiffic - why?? I ahve had loads of stress yesterday and today, too much and too difficult to go into on here BUT even though I could have murdered someone for a cig I haven't took one, OH says if I can get through this I can cope for permanent without a cig I so hope he is right! Guzzling water like mad today to try and beat the nicotine devil that is still lurking - bloody little swine he is been at the moment Joanne

Hi Everyone, Joanne - Not sure why the craving creeps up and smacks you in the face, well on Saturday it will be 8 weeks and im not on the patches any longer either. Keep up the good work, you are doing great and I am so proud of you because you remind me of me at every stage you have hit, remember it will get easier.. Caz - I know what you mean about not seeing the money when buying the patches, though to be honest the cigs and patches are a lot cheaper here, thats one reason I kept smoking because the cigs where just over a dollar a packet! Ang - You are doing really well, stick with it and the next thing you will know is you have hit the week mark.. Day four & it has been awful today. I suppose I thought each day would get easier but today has been worse than the three previous. I was so so tempted to give in but managed to hold out ! Tonight I have to go to Holland via car which will be a tester as the smoker Ang would keep awake on night driving by smoking! Bad points today , grumpy, tired, weepy , eating anything & everything. Good points, £20 extra in my purse, no stinky morning fag breath, My hubby being a complete Angel while I take it all out on him. Will be back with a update on Sunday Have a great weekend everybody!
