Waste of Space.. I think it's old fashioned. I don't like that system of hierarchy or having Prince Charles as King one day.

Seems to be little more in favour of our monarchy than against. Talking about the pageantry, we all like to see the visitors whop come to spend a little time at Buck House, whether they are French, Japanese, whatever ... and nice to see the way that we are able to greet them with flags flying down the Mall - all very impressive. Who saw G Bush when he visited ?? from what I remember we couldnt get within a mile of him.

The point about the Royal Family is that they are just like a dictatorship, in that the people do not get to decide who is sitting on the throne, so discussing whether or not Charles would make a good king, or should abdicate in favour of William etc is pointless. Incidentally, there seem to be lots of folk in favour of William taking over from the Queen, but I am old enough to recall when people swooned over Prince Charles as an eligible bachelor and lapped up stories of his staying out late, being seen with glamorous women, etc. Given enough time, people will no doubt be moaning about William and suggesting his son would be a better bet etc etc. nell

Talking of cuppas with 'Er Maj' Lynda, when I was 4 my parents took me to London and we went to Buckinham Palace. I sobbed and sobbed because I couldn't go to tea with the queen, saying that if she came to our house we'd give her a cup of tea. They had to find a policeman who explained to me that the flag was showing that she wasn't home, she was visiting Charles in boarding school, so she couldn't invite me in for tea, she wasn't there! That dried my tears, apparently and I went home happy!! :-)

Right!! I'll stay in this. ((smiling)) Quote 'Any democracy is only one step away from a dictatorship' Exactly, my mom always said 'it's not what the Queen does - it's what she prevents by being here'. And please remember that many Americans wanted George Washington to declare himself as king. They weren't terribly concerned with a 'democracy' to start with. Hmmphh. 3:05pm here and the TV news just commented on the 'lap dance' thingy - but apparently he said 'No thank you, I have a girl friend'.
