Grew up in Skye but they've forgotten that and bite me every time! Daniel, if you ever base a story in Scotland in the 'summer' include a few thousand midgies! |

*twighlight zone theme (again!)* The best thing for them is avons skin-so-soft dry oil spray bout £5 for bottle but you only need a little and I buy the green one (not sure if the pink one does the same) and it lasts our family all summer....barbecues etc. included. It kills them on contact with your skin.....the only downfall is you end up with an arm/face/back/anywhere full of dead midgies and have to go wash after a while or you look minging!! P.S. when you spray it on DON'T rub it in just leave it as it is :-)))) I know a wee shop in Mallaig who sells it.....'GOT IT' it's beside the lifeboat shop round the corner past the mission as if your heading for the pier. You OH might wana try it if he reacts to their bites :-))) |

No Polly, lol. Mudgee is Aboriginal for 'Nest in the Hills' and, no, I'm not Aboriginal!! Father's family originally from Scotland, mother's from England. Pretty narked, 'cause I don't have any convicts and that's a badge of honour here! Lew Lew xxx |

Sorry you feel you won't be back Fred, hope you change your mind on that one. We don't have them all the time so think about earlier or later in the year, and if it's a warm evening/day but with earlier rain then they'll be out! Kind of like the mosquito but plenty folk still go abroad on holiday. Pity we couldn't use them as a secret weapon - maybe it would stop some of the wars. That's what's wrong, Fred - my husband also drinks whisky and thinks they're biting him for a 'nip'!! |

I can't believe no-one knows about it?????? Aparantly the american side of avon sells it as pest repellant (not suitable for OH's!) It had a big write up in one of the papers bout 1-2yrs ago....turns out the journalist who was doing research up here at the time could barely get out of his hotel for the midgies and locals told him bout their secret weapon (avon skin-so-soft the green bottle) and he was that impressed with it he had a full page on how wonderful it was!!! (not sure if he wrote his other article!) I can honestly reccomend it :-)))) and it doesn't smell terrible like some of the other so called repellants. Just remember DON'T rub it in just spray and leave it :-))) Happy midgie free-ness!! |
