She would wear wide trousers and a long kaftan type gold lame jacket over, very buxom, loud, short grey afro...died of a heart attack I think...... have to sleep on this one I'm afraid..... |

Been racking my brains too on this one Merry. Ester Phillips, Della Reese, Barbara Lewis. I can see the person you mean,big lady,big personality,big voice. Yes she was like Rusty Lee,with her laugh. Very short,grey hair,bulgy eyes. Great Voice. Exactly as you described. Will be thinking of this one all day |

Marion Williams died in July 1994 of diabetes. She looks a bit like the woman you're describing. There's also a Mattie Moss Clark, but I don't think she ever came to England. PS - Ella Fitzgerald died in 1996. |
