Great thread! Hope this comes out the way I intend but look at it this way- We do not intend to offend - it is the other person who takes offence. Someone doesn't offend me - it is I who take offence. We should each take responsibility for our our own feelings and reactions. I am sure that there would be fewer problems on a website if someone reading a thread they feel is offensive would go away and return to the thread later to post. Many a true word is spoken in jest and many a wrong word spoken in the heat of the moment. |

David I have to agree with everything adam said. I too have had an interrigation of sorts. When for a bit of a laugh i changed my name, someone decided to belittle me and my oh on these boards, not only within my thread but also started one of their own which was personally aimed at me. Obviously this caused much distress and stopped me posting for a while. I received some lovely pms afterwards saying that i shouldnt let it get to me and to go on posting if i wished. It does seem that all newbies are tarred with the same brush and that we are all wums or worse. I came on here to build up a family history for my children to inherit, but i have been sidetracked by most of the lovely peeps on this board. The majority of the time this board is a lovely place to be and i enjoy a good debate and all the support that is out there. lorraine |

Lorraine There was no belittling at all When someone posts as 'Dr Evil ' (And has never posted as such on the boards before) Its bound to ring alarm bells..and it sure did ring mine ! You were on the thread ANSWERING Dr Evil as if you were complete strangers. Only on clicking on one of your names I realised that you and DR evil were one and the same people. You were...in fact...talking to yourself. At one point it took you six minutes to revert from one identity to another. You claimed it was your husband trying out the board on your membership. If so why not post his real name, and why talk to him (after you switch computer seats and board names) as if you are complete strangers ? I copied the whole thread before you deleted it if people would like to read it What I dont understand is and what you dont mention here, is the catty pms you sent me regarding this Abuse blocked you from contacting me again, BTW My thread was entitled Grumpy old inbetweenies (Which anyone can put in search) and it was in line with the grumpy old men/woman threads at the time I did make one reference to EVIL people at the time, yes that was a reference to your shenanigans. Its obvious you posted and deleted on there as well, as someone makes reference to your name on the thread. This is my last word on the subject..stopped...finished...end....as it should have ended 3 weeks ago ! Elaine x ps As for you not posting for a while, it was a very short while Your thread by DR evil was posted on 28/06/2006 You added to another thread the day after and again five days later Added by Lorraine Winks on 29/06/2006 08:43:32 Added by Lorraine Winks on 03/07/2006 12:50:19 so please dont make yourself out to be a victim eh ! |

Perhaps GR should stop allowing members to change their name into a nick name, at least it will stop members from constantly changing theirs, making out they are someone else. |

Ego/ Chris, I don't understand what you are getting at? I have asked you once before to keep my personal details off of these boards. |

Mr Dean, Quite frankly I find your sarcasm incredibly dull and boring. My personal details are just that, PERSONAL, absoloutly cock all to do with you. I really have nothing more to say to you, I have forwarded on to GR all your nonsense. So go find someone else to pick on, preferably your own age. |

A Swindell If your adoption details are private, why are they on a public site ? I too questioned your honesty when the only Adam Swindell on the whole site was in someone else's tree...and as its your board name and we are to assume your true name, it should have shown up as also in your tree....and it hasn't. So Adam swindell is either a made up name or your adoptive name, and your real name is the one person in your tree. If thats the case, Ego has done nothing wrong in mentioning the name you have posted for all to see on the boards Elaine x |

Just to redress the balance a little, I'm a huge fan of Alter's sarcasm:) |

Can't speak for David but don't think this thread was meant to be used for actually offending people. It was just asking for opinions. LOL Jean x. |

Hello David, Just popped in to see if I had any messages and have a quick look at the boards 'cos I wasn't here over the weekend and came across your thread - a good one, as usual, I'd like to add. I tend to reply to threads as I would in 'real' life, but I do agree with what many have said, the written word can be interpreted differently because we are not face to face with anyone on here. I certainly hope that I have never offended anyone on here and if I have (or ever do) I'd be perfectly willing to give explanations either in open or my personal e-mail messages. Hope everyone's had a good weekend! Margaret |

lololol Just caught up with this thread. David...you crack me up!!! rofpmsl However, in response to Adam. I'm a little intrigued as to how you came about the name Chris Dean. ????? Since you're apparently a new member to the site one can only assume someone gave you this information. If you're going to indulge in a bit of detective work, I suggest you get a more reliable source first. |
