Brenda Report 22 Oct 2009 12:01

I read Dorothys message yesterday while I was at work and thought I had sent a small reply, but as I was doing it in work ,when I was not supposed to I could have hit the wrong button if someone came near the counter!!!.
Weather damp but windy today so I have put some washing out in the hope it will dry ,even if a little bit.
Well most of the jobs etc we had on for this week have been done ,so now I can start to put the books and ornaments back in the dining room and the photos on the walls,This will free up some floor space in here, but while I am doing this I have to do some decluttering .
I have far too many knick- knacks,so the charity shop will get them.My sister thinks I should do a car boot sale ,but I haven't got the nerve ,so hopefully the charity shops will benefit.
Six weeks tomorrow to our holidays, and we are really looking forward to them, after that it will be christmas,we are asked at this time of year to state what other holidays we want offf besides Christmas day ,Boxing day ,new years day .I do not usually ask as I have just been away ,but I am this year,I am asking for the weekend after new years day ,not sure if I will be lucky or not ,what this space.
Glad you are still liking the little job Dorothy ,must be good to be able to "work " when it suits like that.
Fred does seem to be having a good time .wonder how he got on swapping dishes etc with the lady he talked about.
Better go and see what John is up , he is openng something up by the sounds .,comimg from the other room,Probably Davids new bed ,He was leaving it to him to open. !!!
See you all tomorrow ,Take care ,Brenda

goodmorning from a very chilly barrie -4 and windy glad that you have done all the stuff in the house brenda it does take a while does it not. well folks I had a strange afternoon yesterday sasha (the cat) was asleep on the couch when all of a sudden he went into a ful blown seizure he back flipped ofer the arm of the couch landed on the end table then off that onto the floor and was in the seizure for about 4mins, then slipped under the couch after I had pulled it out it is a very large couch he was crouched in the far corner then went into a small seizure again, well I called a friend and off we went to the vet's they could not find the cause so he is home and very quiet but eating and visiting the litter box. as the vet says both of the boys are old and in the medium stage of renal failure sowho knows, they could have done cat scans of mir's but I said no to that it costs in the thouands of dollars as he does not seem to be in any pain I have decided to just watch him, if it happens again then she advises that then I will have to decide to make that decision we all don't like to make with our pets. as I had seen many seizures when I was nursing I was surprised to see it in a animal , so it is too cold to go out to-day I have already had an early morning call from andrew first to see how sasha was and then the usual "mother don't go out to-day unless you really have to" if you need anything call and I will pick it up, well I don't need anything I have food and books so what more could I want bye for now dorothy

Brenda Report 24 Oct 2009 07:31

Morning all, have not looked out the window yet so can not give a weather report! hope its dry haev a number of errands to do today.
Dorothy ,I am so sorry about sasha. We had a dog,Sam,who was a fanastic dog,he was an English bull terrier and he had seizures from being about 1 year old,(he was 8 when he died)we found he had an heart conditon that caused them,he did have medication but that led to other problems later on,kidney, lungs etc ,in the end it was too many problems and each medication did not get on with the other and we also had that decsion to make.We knew it was coming and left it until the time he was in pain ,was still hard to let him go,but we did not want him in pain
Hoping to get to Bury later this morning ,always think of our meeting at M&S when I go into the shop. Not sure we will do the shops today or just the market,I want some cake decorating things from a stall on the market ,and some shopping from the fish and meat market,John is coming and he likes to do one or the other ,so it will probably be the market, can do the shiops in a few weeks on my own.Managed to sort some more bits out to get rid off,but have a long way to go yet.
Have been to the hospital this week and they are not sure what is wrong with my knee, the consultant is sending me for a scan as he thinks it is likely to be a ligament problem, but I am also having physio as well, which is painful but will get less painful as I strengthen my muscles ,apparently.
Better get washed and dressed soon and have something to eat ,so I will not be tempted to have a breakfast out!!.
TAke care Brenda

hi its saturday evening I was talking to anne to-day and she mentioned that you put the clocks back this evening we do not do it till next week-end so if I have it right we are only 4hrs behind for a week . sasha has been allright no further seizures so I am hoping that it was an isolated thing. I picked up the queen moms biography this am at the library I was number one for it, and I have read myslef silly to-day it is a very thick and heavy book, but apart from a few things from her childhood I did not find many new things in ot, anne said she saw and it was 50 pounds that is a terible price not sure of the cost over here as this edition did not have a price on it. still raining over here we may have to build the ark soon well I am off to bed have a good weekend and I hope youenjoyed the market dorothy

sunday lucnch time over here it is a cold but sunny day in barrie this has the makings of a fun day for my friend isobelle she recieved a call this morning from her son he and the wife where at the hospital she is not due till nov 5th but it looks like things are going to happen early ie. her water broke at the moment she is back home and if nothing happens by 6pm our time about 10pm yours than they will induce, to-day there is a party for taetum her other grandaughter who will be 4 to-morrow so her favourite uncle will not make the party, so the phone lines between my house up here and isobelle's in brampton are going to be busy. andrew called to invite me over for supper but I declined I am fighting off a cold so I thought I should not spread the germs over at there place he filled me in on all the weeks happenings with the children so we had a good chat the other family members where at church he only joins them occasionally. the takeover off his company by the firm pfizer has taken place but so far no big changes affecting him so that is good. next saturday is halloween the fun and candy night so I have got the children's goody bags ready they assured me that they where not too old to get them including blackpool rock if you have any grandma, thank heaven for the english and scottish shopp they keep me well supplied well that is it for me though I had 2 good jokes from fred this am hope he and liz are still enjoying the holiday bye dorothy

goodmorning from another wet and windy day over here sorry that your trip to the market ended up with you getting rained on brenda I would love to wander round the market brings back many memories for me, Isobelle's new grandaughter is doing well also the new mom and dad she sent me a photo taken just after she was born a bonny wee thing. update on sasha (my cat) he seems to be over his seizure and has not had any more. I have been making a list of things to do on top is getting the car winterized perhaps next wednesday and then the regular flue shot not sure about the swine flue shot though my son does recommend it after talking to the research people at his drug company , as I am around young people it is probably a good idea and with my heart problem I guess I should do it. this week-end we put the clocks back we are a week later than england.well I should go and get the day started we have not heard from fred or sylvia for a while hope they are ok bye for now dorothy

Hi Dorothy and any one else looking in, Another wet day here ,but I must admit it isn't cold.
Had a bad night in work last night a gang of youths caused havoc, when we asked them to leave they charged round th library like a pack of animals. On finally leaving they kicked the wall (its a prefab building) fom the outside and put a hole in the wall!!!. We have had loads of people here today looking at it as they now think it would be easy for any thieves to get in via the walls.!!
Been busy again today with story time being about scary stories with halloween round the corner, hope this after noon is ok.
Having physio again tomorrow, need to dig out some shorts or cropped pants.so i will be more comfy.
See you tomorrow.Brenda

Hi Brenda ,Dorothy And anyone else who drops in.
Liz and i have just come back in to find the internet connection active ,so i will make a little hay while the sun shines .
There are only four i s ps on the island ,and C Y T A run by the phone company is the best of a bad bunch ,lol,so take heed all ,any visiters to this fair isle ,please bring you internet fittings ,lol, in this case carrier pigeons he he.
We have been to the Neolithic settlement this morning ,the oldest habitation found on the island so far ,and well worth the visit.,the huts being built out of mud bricks stone and limestone cement .with flat roofs built from bamboo batons and finished with wattle and daub cement ,nice and waterproof.
The walls of these huts are over two feet in width,so they would have been nice and cool in summer ,and warm in winter. The inside layout was very clever ,the huts being round ,with a platform halfway up the walls to lay the tressle beds on ,the kitchen and sitting area beneath with seating against the walls.
There were about thirty of these huts in the settlement each housing a family ,two thousand people in this one village.
They were very choosy as to where they built too ,this place had a stream running off the top of the mountains giving water all the year round ,plenty of wild wheat still growing on the hillside today ,and fruit trees ,so they had plenty of food.
Seems strange though because so far ,there has been no trace of animals ,goats ,or sheep so these people must have lived on wild vegitation and probably fish from the sea which is only two miles away.
These people also built huge walls all round the settlement to protect them from invasion ,but there is no sign of any other people on the island until much later,so ,apart from any strife from within ,they must have had a pretty peaceful existence.
We saw our first real portent of the autumn here ,black clouds rolling off the mountains thunder ,lightning ,and a few spots of rain.,but we wern't worried about that ,being by this time in the coffee house with a nice cup of Nescafe.
Tons of pics for anyone who want's them as soon as we get home ,but it would take too long to upload them from here ,more than likely the I s P would go down halfway through.
Liz has brought a beutiful tablecloth and place mats ,for ten euro's ,and we will be buying another lace one before we go home.
Have to go now to get the tea ready ,but may manage to get back on later ,Fred.

hi brenda and fred and anyone else who is around brenda sorry to hear about the trouble at the library that really is terrible, good luck with the physio loved to hear all about fred's holiday it sounds like a great place to visit, pouring down rain to-day but warmer so I shall pop out at some point. my daughter in law is down with a flue bug so I am staying away, the flue shots are available on nov 9th, a young 13yr old boy has died of the swine flue near us playing hockey last week and dead this week and no other health problems. so the line ups at some of the clinics are quite long. I think that parents in the area are re thinking the swine flue shot and maybe thinking that they should get it. talked to my sister in calgary yesterday no snow but cold but their place in canmore is great she says the mountains are covered in snow and very beautiful. well that is it for me for to-day bye for now dorothy

hi its thursday afternoon and it has been a sad day over here I was woke up this morning at 5-15 my time by my cousin in london(reading) england to tell me that my dads youngest brother had had a fall and died before help arrived he was 91 he lived in stretford his wife is about 89 I think, I was very fond of this uncle he reminded me so much of my dad and he always ended his phone calls with "remember I love you" I shall miss hearing that, no funeral plans as yet but I am not going to come over as I have trouble with the angina at ariports . and chris has decided not to go both her and her husband payed him a visit about 4yrs ago and of course I was home 2yrs ago. I think that I shall have an early night to-night as I could not get back to sleep after she called, she had called my sons house first by mistake but he was ok about it. it is strange how dates go in family's my dad died on oct 24 1992 and now harold on the 29th of oct well that is it for me bye for now dorothy

So sorry about your Uncle Dorothy,it must be difficult when anything like this happens and you are so far away, luckily I do not have any relatives out of Manchester.
Weather has been loveely the last few days ,not quite an Indian summer, but still nice,
Working all day to day, been uneventful up to now lets hope it stays that way ,but as it gets darker we are expecting ,some trick or treats to try and up set things .

Hi Brenda ,and everyone else who happens by ,lol.
I am adding a little missive whilsy i am still on the net ,he eh.
If it isn't some problem here it's another ,lol,up till the weekend it was just bad I S Ps we had to contend with ,but over the weekend we had massive storms here coupled with torrential rain ,and gale force winds which has brought down telephone lines ,and water getting into the underground cables ,and now the wind is causing havoc.
This is a side of cyprus that most tourists don't see ,the weather being [apart from temperatures] that you normally get in blighty.
One R a F cargo plane inbound last night took a lightning strike on the nose cone, which blew a lot of the electrical gear on board, but it landed perfectly safely thank goodness but the aircraft it seems will be unable to fly for a few weeks while it is repaired.
We had a nice trip up to Mount Olympus last week stopping off in a few places as we climbed up the mountain roads alive in their autumn colours and have to say ,it could have been a mountain road in Canada ,the colours were startling,so i hope the pics come out okay.
Going to do a shoot now before everything goes pear shaped again lol.
Catch you later ,i hope ,Fred.

Dorothy Report 5 Nov 2009 23:57

hi everyone hope you all are well yes brenda the new hairdo went well the car so so I had some work done and the rest will be done next wednesday something to do with the brakes but nothing major the tires are in great shape for the weather ahead and that is good as they are about 100 pounds each and you have to buy 4 by law not the odd one. it did snow to-day just in the wind and rain coming of the lake but it did not last, heard from the cousin in manchester (stretford) the funeral will take place on nov 11th my it does take time to get buried does it not he will have been dead for 2weeks, over here it is over and done with in three days. I have been asked to donate to a donkey charity apparently the uncle did that about 2 times a year so chris and I thought that was a good idea instead of flowers as they get thrown away. hope fred is enjoying the weather as most of us are not. I am going to make a coffee and settle in front of the tv for bit, bye for now dorothy hope bonfire night was fun!!

Brenda Report 6 Nov 2009 04:56

Hi all, glad the hair do went well dorothy, and good news on the car aswell.
Two weeks is a little long to wait for a funeral,it can be under a week sometimes a little longer ,depending on the weather etc.when my mam died at christmas time it was two weeks then, due to holidays and the weather, but it was less than a week when dad died in august.
Off to physio again tomorrow, then some shopping to pick up some venetian blinds we ordered last week.MIght go to Bury on Saturday ,John wants a new overcoat. The ones he has seen in stores are expensive so he wants to look at the market, hope the weather is better than last time.
I have let my manager know today that I will be finishing at the end of march ,beginning of april next year.I needed to know when i could finish without giving up any holidays I had .Hopefully it will be just before easter.
the cat is making nosies her to be let out ,so I had better go down and open the door for him
Speak soon,Brenda

Kathleen Report 6 Nov 2009 10:03

Good morning all, sorry I have not added anything for a while. I have popped in now and then and did write a message which seemed to have disappeared into cyber space. Not sure if it was my computer or the site, been having a bit of trouble with both. All seems well now though.

Leaving work at the end of March is a good idea Brenda, you will have the summer to look forward to being a lady of leisure (?) Not too long now until your holiday, I hope you have good weather for it. Our summer has been a big disappointment on the whole - certainly not the long, hot summer they kept telling us was coming.

Dorothy, I see you have already had a little taste of the snows to come. It seems such a short time ago that you were telling us of the heavy snowfalls and how cold it was. Time seems to go so quickly nowadays.
So sorry to hear about your Uncle, a good idea to make a donation rather than flowers, I would prefer to have flowers whilst I can see them - not on my grave. When my brother died last year over £1000 was raised for Children in Need in his memory which would have pleqased him greatly.

Fred seems to be having a whale of a time in Cyprus, pity the weather seems to have changed a bit but I am sure the holiday has done them both the world of good. Back to normal soon though when I'm sure they will get stuck in to getting ready for Christmas. I bet his garden has missed him.

Indira has moved into her little flat, it does look very nice. She had an image in her head of what she wanted it to look like and has achieved it.
In spite of lots of adverse advice she stuck to her guns and got, more or less, what she had in mind - now everyone is full of praise. Her Mum has seen it and even she has said how lovely it looks. Susan is much better now, she is on a CTO so will now have to take her medication or be straight back into hospital. They have also put her back on her original medication which seems to suit her better. In January she sees her Oncologist for her 5 year check, all seems to be well but she has said that she will not have any scans as she doesn't want any more operations or treatment. We have until January to try to change her mind, her cancer was aggressive and likely to return so there is some anxiety, she had no symptons when she was first diagnosed. I have to say that I can understand to a certain extent as she had such a dreadful time - a full year of chemo, radiotherapy plus 4 hospital stays when she was so ill.
Still we can only hope all is well.

Take care, hope you all have a good day
Love
Kathleen
