Romany, what readings did you do and are you still doing them?

Hello Shirley, Joan, Duncan, (Shirley it makes me laugh your username still says getting the hang of it lol) rose, I remember your son doing a paper round and you said you wished you had a garage for a drum kit , when I talked about my son drumming. How random are those memories haha, wow your son 27!!! My kids are now 25, 22 and 17, I ended up having twins in lockdown (yes everyone thought it was a joke) so I have twin boys who will be 3 in dec. I remember vaguely reading for you but not Elsie x

There was a lot of unkindness and almost bullying in the old days. When people found/felt that they could say what they liked on the internet. Thankfully it is a lot better and happier now.

It was a strange time wasn’t it Ann, so many of us were reasonably new to the internet , I think some people didn’t realise that the internet leaves footprints behind…

I joined GR in 2004, looked on this Board a couple of years later, and was scared away, things were so nasty. I was accused of being another Sylvia who had apparently been one who "caused trouble" and banned (?????), the postings to me were really nasty!

That's why I added "in Canada", but didn't come back until about 2011/2012, but then another Canadian and I were accused of being the same person because we both appeared on the site at the same time (overnight!) and sometimes contradicted earlier postings, with one of us agreeing with the other. We usually did know better if it concerned Canada or the US! ;-)

I agree that there was also nastiness on the Genealogy Boards, some of it was unbelievable! Some people kept getting banned and returning with a slightly different name :-|

It is much more pleasant these days ................. but I sometimes wish there were a few more people around in the UK night to chat with!

I joined here the same year that I got a computer. I just assumed that everyone would be honest about who and what they were, computers and internet not being cheap to use, and particularly on a site that had a specific purpose and common interest to members. Some lessons are best learned early :-(

But on a lighter note, it didn't take me long to find out that LOL was not shorthand for 'Lots of love'.

Rambling, I also only got a computer and the internet around the same time so was a huge learning curve. Took ages to get to know all these abbreviations and like the emojis on my first smartphone.

Now when I look back, I think how on earth did I get the hang of it?

I also thought people would be honest but learnt very quickly who the " trouble makers" were and steered away from them.

I'm a bit too honest for my own good and I do speak the truth when asked.

LDS. Who was the chap who used to cause uproar now and again? There was also Jonesey - a lovely man. Memories are made of this. Cx

There are quite a few of the ‘old’ ones on Facebook.Lemon is on there. Sadly Dizzie died as did several others. Isn’t bobtail the same Bob who is still around on here.
Sometimes on Facebook there are so many familiar names it is difficult to remember which platform I am on.

There are quite a few of the older members who are still around but they just read. Occasionally they surprise us by adding to a thread. It always livens us up when that happens.
