Well, after all the excitement of the last few days I can finally announce that we have put our house on the Market :-D

All we have to do now is sell it and find another place :-D :-D

Is the market moving quickly over there?

Absolutely, Sylvia.

There are 'stories' of people in the Eastern States buying property in WA sight unseen due to the extremely low rate of COVID here.

That may apply more in the Metropolitan area of Perth, but certainly at the moment there are more buyers than sellers, which could be a problem for us as we are down-sizing and the type of property we are after are being snapped up by investors.

uh oh, that could be difficult!

The reason that we are selling is that the garden is too big for us, and to access the main rear garden we have to use some stone steps. Additionally, as the house is double-storey, we are also finding the stairs a bit much.

We don't 'have' to sell and if we do we can always look for a four room single storey house, hopefully on a smaller block. Our preference is for three bedroom/two bathroom property.

The current house has five bedrooms and three bathrooms.

We have a few maintenance jobs to do first. There is someone calling tomorrow to give us a quote and then the photographer arrives on Tuesday to take the internal shots for the Estate Agent

good luck with it Allan, let's hope all those moving from other areas don't bring covid with them. Is there a reason why the level is so low there?

Good to plan ahead before you 'have' to move.

Ann, yes; the state was locked down early and has very strong protocols in place to try to ensure that people from other states, where infections are high, can't gain admission without special permission.

This has been a double-edged sword as it has led to complacency in WA about being vaccinated.

For ten years or so, I have mentioned it regularly but OH has always said that he’ll be carried out of here. :-0

The funny thing is that while I have mentioned it for around ten years, my older sis and her OH have always said that they'd have to be carried out of their family home ..... but who moved to a small bungalow in 2019?

It is a nice one, by the way, but they had to get rid of a lot of stuff!

That will be someone else's problem, we have no family to gain from our possessions, it will go to charity.

JoyLouise, that statement in your post could be my OH speaking!! I have given up on the subject - it gets me nowhere. :-(

We tried to convince my mum that a bungalow would be more suitable to her needs as she has mobility problems and a stick. She is in an upstairs flat with 15 steps, but about 2 years ago she told my brother, " I am not moving anywhere unless you carry me out in a wooden box."

So that was the end of the conversation, so we have given up too Andysmum!

Good Luck with your move Alan. We downsized 20 years ago in our 50s and have a cosy bungalow. Gwyn is right about doing it before you have to. I think the more you do while you can, the less worry things will be when you really can't. It's actually good to have a good clearout as well and believe me, it feels good afterwards and you never miss things you haven't looked at or used for years. I hope you find somewhere you like soon!

We have been here for nearly thirty years and it has been a family 'home' in all senses of that word. Weddings, divorces, a revolving door for our two children when their various relationships faltered, but we now feel that we have also moved into a new period of our lives.

Memories are very nice and will always be with us, but we have to live in the present and not the past :-D

People from other provinces have been buying property sight unseen in the interior of BC since covid began .......... Vancouver is too pricey now. Daughter says the same thing has been happening in parts of Nova Scotia.

Maybe something to do with being coastal provinces??????


Like others, I have also said for several years that it's time to move, even though our house is small, one level with a full height basement. OH says he'll die if I take him away from the garden. So we stay. Daughter would love for us to sell and find somewhere close to them in Nova Scotia ........ we only have the one child, and it would make life so much easier than if we die in place, as OH wants, and she has to sor out the house and "stuff".

Same here in the Eastern States, Sylvia, the median house price in Sydney is now over $A 2.5 million

Wow. Allan. That's getting to be the same as here, although there has been a drop in recent weeks. The various levels og government have put special taxes on houses that are bought by overseas buyers, and then the city adds more taxes if they are not lived in.

I'm actually dreading moving, we've been in this house since 1972, so you can imagine how much "stuff" we hav3 accumulated!

The house 'officially' went on sale on Friday morning at 10.00am

When I say officially, that is the time that the listing appeared on the internet. By 11.00am we were told two separate people would be coming to view the house at 2.00pm

Yesterday (Saturday) we were advised that some one would be having a look at 3.00pm. I was at a Masonic Installation but OH hung around until 3.00pm.

No show! then just after that the Estate Agent rang to apologise about being late and explained that he had to re-arrange the timing as three couples wanted to view the place.

There is also a booking for Monday evening and one of the people who saw the house yesterday wants to revisit on Wednesday with her husband who is a FIFO worker.
