Never heard of anyone doing that, Gwyn. Always salt and vinegar for me - one of the few things I add salt to. My BP is always low so I only started adding salt on my plate to lift it without having to resort to the horrible salt tablets one doc prescribed for me!

I’ve heard of that Florence but never done so myself.

I was given a bush recipe for cooking parrots though; apparently you boil them for hours in a large pot also containing a large rock. When the rock is tender you throw away the parrot and eat the stone, hence the derivation of rock cakes :-D

Allan .................. Kanga steaks were apparently a staple food in the Australian "residential schools" that Islanders attended. One of the faculty wives that I was particularly friendly with back in 75/76 had attended one, and said she couldn't face kanga steak ever again!!

I loved kangaroo meat that I've had, although only 2 or 3 times ......... just as I love venison, moose, etc .......... all the ones I listed in an earlier post.

I wasn't taken with BBQ'd rattlesnake, however. Too many small bones :-D


OH used to make Summer Pudding as a standard dessert when we had people over for dinner .................. no-one here knew of it, and loved it. In more recent years, he's relied on English Trifle, well laced of course :-D . People here knew of it, but many had never had it.

I sometimes have cheese on my baked beans, but not at the moment as I am trying to loose weight.

The meals I would really enjoy is a decent roast beef and all the trimmings or a big seafood platter with smoked salmon, prawns, shrimps, smoked fish, langoustines, crab and maybe I could cope with an oyster.

If i could afford it, i could happily live on most seafood except for oysters, cockles etc

Crabmeat especially the brown meat is just to die for mmmn

Cockles seem not to be as good as they were.Saturday morning Dad used to get cockles from Macfisheries and we would eat them dowsed in vinegar and black pepper. Nowadays they just seem watery so now just give me a bowl of mussels.
