Well, an hour later - not only was my gas reading 240 uits over what it should have been, my electricity bill (they never sent me electricity bills) was 300 units over reality! |

Well, last week I received my final bill from British Gas - ultimately, owners of my 'smart' meter, and able to read my meter from afar. |

Brian, they tried to whack my monthly payments up by £20 a month, but I was previously in credit, so I spent hours on the phone - mainly waiting for it to be answered - and asked them why, when it would only end up with my demanding ALL my credit back in April. |

We have a SMETS1 installed by EE but having changed suppliers I now have to read the meters and email the readings in. |

maggiewinchester, I reckon they wouldn't because it would show them to be worse than us. |

Yes Joan, we have changed the light bulbs and tubes for other reasons, we don't leave anything running so we don't need to see how much electric is being used, we can't cut down on what we use because we have done the years ago. What ever we are using is only on for the duration of use. |

According to OVO SMETS1 smart meters can now be upgraded to SMETS2 using a free software upgrade. SMETS2 meters support supplier switching for best deal using, say, USWITCH. SMETS2 does not use 2G. |

I was talking about you flauting your opinion as fact, RTR, and gave my brother's lack of internet as an example - you 'knew' Somerset had the internet, therefore my brother 'did' have the internet, and by that reckoning, we were both too stupid to realise. |

Rollo really can’t see when the conversation goes sideways a bit, unless he is the one that did it. |

I said Maggie that the majority of the population in Somerset can pick up Internet with a mobile phone. Then of course the option of Internet using an usp such as EE, Sky etc. |

Are you sure about internet connections in Scotland?, and whether the 'dedicated network' really can reach 99% |

The problems with signal strength do not apply to SMETS2. |

I didn’t need to read your posts about SMETS 1 & 2 as I was already very aware of the issues over the two. |

If you read my posts and joind up the dots or just googled you would be aware that (a) SMETS1 was a flop, lack of a stable/any connection using the phonenetwork being a major factor (b) SMETS2 does not use wifi or the phone networks but has its own dedicated network which can reach 99% of the country. SMETS2 also works ok with Economy7 and Night Storage Heaters - see OVO web site. The power companies are not finding retail sales very profitable and are pulling out eg SSE has sold its retail arm to OVO and /or reducing costs. One sure way to do this is SMETS2. BritishGas has imposed a brutal new contract on its service engineers. |

I don't know about doctors. But if you had actually read the thread one of the things you would have come across was my saying how I loved technology (not) and how it seemed to be affecting my visit to the dentist. |
